Sleights, Whitby, Scarborough District, North Yorkshire, England
We offer Bed and Breakfast accommodation at Groves Hall. Situated just two miles outside Whitby, North Yorkshire, in the beautiful and peaceful Esk Valley, Groves Hall has a commanding view over the surrounding countryside. We are lucky enough to be on the route of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and in the summer, steam trains go past four times a day.
It is a Grade II listed Georgian stone built property set in seven acres, with mature gardens featuring specimen trees and plants. There is also 300 metres of river frontage on the Esk, from where it is possible to fish during the season for salmon and trout if you purchase a day permit from us, and have a fishing license.
The local area is wonderful for walking, cycling, fishing, painting, horse riding, bird watching, relaxing etc, with the bonus of being seven minutes drive from the...

Have stayed in many places but have never quite felt as though we were staying with friends as we did at Groves Hall. Had drinks with Numi and Charles on arrival, we're going to head for Whitby straight away but passed very pleasant time chatting, taking in the stunning views across the valley. £8 by taxi into Whitby we went...

Thank you for such a friendly welcome. Wonderful accommodation with so many interesting artefacts and treasures, absolutely delightful, all in an amazing setting. Wonderful views, beautiful gardens and the sight and sound of the steam train regularly passing by. We felt very lucky to have found such a 'hidden' treasure. Breakfast outside in the sunshine put the 'icing' on the...

Thanks so much for a fab review :) When the weather is this good, we are very pleased to share the garden with our guests. Eating breakfast on the terrace is a great way to start the day too. Our guests have been very lucky recently, with most having breakfast outside. We are continuing the the landscaping and planting, and...

Hospitality was first rate and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in! (I subsequently discovered the mattress had been made to order by...

Management response:

It was lovely having you both to stay.It is great when guests appreciate Groves Hall and the gardens, - you were very lucky with the weather, and it wasn't too muddy to get down to the River Esk. Now that you know where we are, hope that you come to stay the next time you are in the UK. You...

About the neighborhood
We are situated two miles outside the seaside town of Whitby, in the village of Sleights, in the National Park.
Satnavs are not reliable here, as they try to take our guests to Aislaby, which is the next village.
We always send detailed instructions how to find us, when guests book.
As we are overlooking the Esk Valley, we are sheltered from the winds and the garden is quite a sun trap.
The North Yorks Moors Steam Railway passes most of the year, and there is a daily service between Whitby and Middlesbrough on the Arriva trainline.
We have buses twice an hour into Whitby, and it is a safe place (though hilly!) to cycle, walk and horse ride.
There are two pubs in the village, The Salmon Leap (an experience!) and The Plough.
