We spent a superb two weeks in Sunset 31. The apartment is comfortable, modern, well appointed and spacious with everything you could wish for. The sea view is wonderful to wake up to with stunning sunsets at the end of the day. The spacious balcony ensured we could eat and socialise outside at every opportunity and the nearby large pool was great and never busy. The apartment is a short walk from the village which has cobbled streets, pedestrianised at night with many fantastic tavernas, bars and shops. Agapi was brilliant keeping in touch from start to finished providing all the details we required. A great relaxing family holiday and we will definitely return to Sunset 31.

As a first time traveller to Crete it was difficult to know what to expect or where the best place is to stay. In need for a re-charge and a chance to relax, on our list was a centrally based location from which we could explore with a car and in easy reach of the airports (1 hour drive). We wanted to be in an area that was quiet and within walking distance to restaurants. It was also important to us that the apartment had a sea view. Sunset 31 achieved it all. The apartment was simple, warm, friendly and clean. It had everything that you needed. The views from the apartment were simply stunning. The pictures simply do not do it justice. We felt very safe in this area and other residents were warm, friendly and respected each others privacy. Although the pool was shared we found the atmosphere was again warm and friendly. The apartment is far enough away from the pool area not to be disturbed by it and near enough to get to it easily. The pool contains a small paddling area for the the toddlers. As a host Agapi was very friendly and made sure we had all the information we needed to get to the apartment and that our experience was a good one. She responded quickly to any of the questions we had about the area or the apartment. You are a short walk (10 mins) from the centre of town and the restaurants. The town itself is a quiet location which helped with the relaxing and re-charging parts of our break. We found the locals were very friendly and willing to offer ideas about where might be best to go. The meals were of a high quality and inexpensive. The beaches in the town are small and i would recommend travelling about 30 mins west towards Chania and west of Rethimno to pick up on a long stretch of beach with beach side restaurants. There is no name but having checked my google photos it gives the following location Pirgos, Lappei and the name of the following restaurant Chrysos Asterias. There is a small bay near to the apartment with some steps near to the apartment which is good for a quiet paddle or sunbathe but not really a swim as it is a bit rocky. However, it added to our experience. If you are travelling to Knossos, we would recommend that you take the guided tour provided by local guides but get there early. I would also recommend travelling into the hills afterwards to a town called Archanes (upper) for lunch (15 mins) based on a recommendation by our guide. At first view it doesn't look like much but the town centre have a cluster of restaurants where we found locals were eating also. If you are travelling to Spinalonga Island we would recommend you travel to Plaka The reason is the drive to Plaka if you follow google maps. The views are simply spectacular as you rise up through a quiet back road and then descend into the village where you can pick up a short ferry ride. There is also a small pebble beach with clear blue waters in Plaka. To sum up, the location and the apartment are great for those that don't like the fussiness of larger resorts such as Bali and where you are looking for a quieter experience. Would I return. In a heart beat. We just wished that we had longer a break and could see more of Crete.

Where to start this one....well the first thing that has to be said is that this apartment certainly lives up to its name. Every single night was highlighted with a beautiful sunset. This apartment actually has three balconies but we only used the main one which was massive and had uninterrupted sea views along the coastline of 180 degrees. Inside is pretty spacious and we were very comfortable on the sofa at the end of a full day. There is a big tele and DVD player with surround sound system to keep kids amused and even a wii system. Theres a selection of DVDs and even spare batteries for remotes etc. You will also find usb chargers and extension leads. The kitchen was more than adequate and we did use the hob a few times when we just wanted an evening in. My only small comment there would be a shortage of prep knifes (sorry former chef) and the bottle opener I think was made of cheese as when you pulled down the handles to get the cork out, just the handles bent down. This never failed to amuse my family! Bathroom was compact but not cramped. Shower good and hot. There were loads of towels and all sorts of goodies/toiletries etc in cupboards. Master bed was firm and I had no trouble sleeping and spare bedding was stored in the apartment. Request for additional bedding was swiftly met too. Efficient air con in all rooms and the wifi was reliable and fast enough. There is also a laptop in the second room if you don't have your own. The pool is about 50 feet away through an alley but you can also see it from the balcony. Its kept clean every morning and has an excellent shallow pool at one end which was a great confidence builder for our little 5yr old. Sun loungers are free and are all around the pool. All in all we were very happy with the apartment. So, Panoramos...A small and in some parts pretty little fishing village/town. Friendly laid back place. Plenty of great little shops for buying gifts for home. There is a small supermarket at the bottom of the high street which has mostly what you will need (ice cold beer). Beaches. There is a town beach which is sandy and actually quite clean as there isn't much boat traffic. Its easy with children and the town provide free sun loungers and umbrellas which we thought was a nice touch. The best thing though is jumping of the harbour wall. Little Kaya was doing this after three days of tempting by Dad. There is a sturdy stainless steel ladder to climb out with and this seems to be a bit of a local sport. Next is turtle beach (or so we named it). Its just a minute up the bay towards the apartment. Really nice especially if it is rough. Big waves come in and its very shallow so its great fun diving under them in the sandy bay. Sun loungers are available for 7euros for two and they are not crammed in also have table and umbrella. Spent our last day there we liked it so much. Then there is a beach we don't know the name of. Its a 5 minute drive in the direction of Remytheon over the bridge of Gerampotamo turn left on to dirt track. This is tricky unless you have clear road so its easier to continue down to the petrol station and turn from there. This beach is made up fine grit but the water is very clear. There are some small cliffs to dive from and a sea arch to swim under 500m away. I did this and it was amazing but, its harder coming back and I was pretty glad to be sitting on the beach at the end. I had big fins and decent snorkel gear. Halfway there I passed a large school of juvenile Barracuda.. which was both a little daunting and a tiny bit intimidating! Lastly if you don't mind a 2 hr drive to the far west of Crete its Elaphonisi. Wow! I think this is probably the most beautiful place I have ever seen on this planet. We got up at sparrows fart to drive there. The first hour is mostly motorway then the last is a stunning and at times scary drive down through massive gorges and round mountains. Unbelievable beauty at every turn. The beach itself was quiet when we got there. Tip walk through the lagoon and keep going as far as you can. Lay your towel down and realise what you were looking for out of Crete all this time. I won't go on about this place as it really is a must see for yourself...you will not be disappointed . It was worth the drive. So from some of my comments you will see that we had a car. Not only was this great for exploring further afield but really handy for nipping around panorama. Its not that we are lazy just that we want carry stuff and the walk in the heat is a bit much for little ones. I would say rent one. We used Kreta cars who were great and easy to pick up at the airport . they were also the cheapest. We also had a look at the local big town, Perma. You go through this if you go to Margaritas village. It has a bank to change currency which you can't do in Panoramo. You need to go to the national bank and have your passport. Note the posh hotel near the apartment will not change for you or let you pay to use their waterpark. Infact I found them very hostile and unpleasant as soon as they realised we weren't hotel guests. Eating avoid the restaurants on the seafront. if you want authentic crretan food go to Kastro duff said. Read their reviews on this site and you will see! Other than that the Fanari is great and friendly with good food. Grilled rabbit was excellent. All in all this is a great place to be mellow and enjoy some quality downtime made all the better by a comfortable apartment and truly excellent owner Agapi who is always on hand if you have any worries. Id recommend this holiday highly.

We loved it here! Sunset 31 is a beautiful spacious and clean apartment, equipped with all the mod cons. The photos of the patio area is what made me book this place and it sure didn't disappoint. The views are unreal. Waking up every morning and looking out across the Aegean Sea was breathtaking. Also watching the sunset every evening is one of the highlights of the entire holiday. We had 10 days here and loved every minute of it. The host was fantastic. Always on hand to answer any questions and nothing was too much trouble. We miss this place terribly!

Really comfortable apartment (well equipped, comfy beds/bedding, efficient air con etc) with stunning views. Our only very minor gripe is that there was only one large/heavy sun lounger on the terrace - would be better to have 2 smaller ones. Large swimming pool with a shallow section that’s great for kids and the pool was rarely busy. Lots of nice little beaches nearby (either walk or drive-able) with nice tavernas. Panormos is a really lovely little place.

A great, well equipped apartment in a great quiet location. The owners were brilliant with great communication from start to end. The area is pleasant and was very quiet when we went in April. Great views of the sea from the lovely balcony and we had some fantastic sunsets. Nice restaurants in walking distance. Highly recommended!

Our first visit to Sunset 31 will definitely be our last. We found the location to be just perfect - quiet but only a 10 minute walk from the lovely town of Panormo. We managed some activity with excellent days out to Imbros Gorge and a full day boat trip from Panormo harbour. It was also just so pleasant to spend time either relaxing on one of the many beaches nearby or around the lovely pool not to mention the special balcony that this apartment offers with its magnificent views. All in all Sunset 31 has all the facilities needed to ensure a memorable and enjoyable stay and we will be back for sure.

We have just returned from Sunset 31 and to say it was the most relaxing holiday ever is an understatement. The apartment was lovely with everything we needed, coffee machine, toaster ,sandwich maker, air con, washing machine, all used fully. While the teenagers slept in, we sat on the balcony with coffee just admiring the view, it was so relaxing. The village was also lovely with many tavernas and a few bars. We tried 3 different beaches all with different qualities. We also had a trip to Klados winery and tasted 5-6 lovely wines and purchased a couple. We didn't hire a car and walked everywhere locally, which wasn't a problem. The pool was lovely too and never crowded and there were always sunbeds. Would definitely return. Thank you Vagelis and Agapi for letting us stay in your lovely holiday home.

This is a great holiday apartment with amazing views over the sea. The rooms are modern and well equipped, especially for those with children. There's a travel cot, high chair, beach toys, baby toys, children's books and DVDs, plastic plates and cutlery - everything you could possibly need for a holiday with small children. There's aircon in all the rooms, and the kitchen and bathroom are both modern. The pool areas are clean and well maintained. It's a shortish walk into the village, which has some good tavernas to eat in. There's a couple of little beaches in the village, although we actually spent more time at Karavostasi cove in nearby Bali which was amazing. I'd say it's best to hire a car so that you can visit the region. The owners were extremely efficient at answering any questions we had. The views from the rooms were simply amazing - the apartment certainly lives up to its name!

About the neighborhood
There are lots of places to visit in and around Panormo: Hire a car and drive up into the mountains and visit the traditional Cretan villages. There are water sports at one of the local beaches within Panormo town. Fishing boats can be hired at the small picturesque harbor by the day or hour. Visit Rethimno (by car 20 Minutes, or 30 minutes by bus. It is a beautiful old town with lots of historic monuments, archeological museum, and also shops, tavernas, bars and nightclubs if you feel like it.
Getting around
In and around Panormo you'll find small beaches of smooth sun-warmed pebbles, sandy coves, some with shallow waters, ideal for children, some with water sports facilities, fishing, diving etc. There are buses, which go regularly to Rethymno (20 min) or to Heraklion and Chania making Panormo an ideal base to explore many parts of Crete. For culturally interested outings you may choose to visit the Monasteries of Arkadi and Preveli, and the world famous Minoan Palace of Knossos. Otherwise you may wish to explore the wilderness wonders of the Samaria Gorge, or simply take time to visit the mountain villages, for example the village of Margarites where traditional pottery and wood carving are still being produced.
