The photos for this property really don't do it justice. This was an amazing find and miles better than the sterile holiday cottages that seem to be the norm now. Fab decor, facilities and really nice to find out about the cottage's history as well as an insight into the owners too! The house was far larger than we expected...

Believe the property description for this cottage, a brilliant place all round. When it says the kitchin is fully equipped it's not exaggerating, even down to weigh scales for baking, baking trays and loaf tins, enough pots and pans for a banquet and even, would you believe it, a truffle slicer. The moment you walk in you'll feel at home....

We booked a last minute holiday to Weavers Cottage in the May half term. It is a lovely cottage new and clean kitchen and bathroom and comfortable beds. We needed the heating on as it was a bit cold and rainy on most days, and it made the cottage very warm and comfortable. Bonsall is a very pretty village, good...

About the neighborhood
Bonsall is set in a deep sided dale beneath Masson Hill, a mile east of Matlock Bath and a mile north of Cromford in Derbyshire. Bonsall Brook significant in Richard Arkwrights choice of site for his mill. The 13th century stone built St JamesChurch stands in a prominent position overlooking the village. It has a fine tower surrounded by crowns and gargoyles and is surmounted by a splendid spire. . The village has two pubs with regular entertainment. Cromford (down the hill!) is very definitely worth taking a closer look at, because it is steeped in industrial history and often called the cradle of the industrial revolution. Before 1770, Cromford was little more than a cluster of cottages around an old packhorse bridge and a chapel where travellers gave thanks for a safe journey. All that... more
Getting around
Inevitably a car is the easiest way to get around, but you can manage without! Firstly, the local train station at Cromford is walkable (uphill, 1.3miles!) and taxis can be arranged from there or from the rank at Matlock Station.
There is also a bus service running from Matlock to Bonsall.
There is a great way to combine train and car that I personally use. Co-Wheels is a car club that has a vehicle right outside Derby Station, and can be booked online for 23 pounds day, and you drop it right back at the station end of your stay. Never been easier. Ask me for more details.
