This beautiful house, located in the heart of the medieval village, provides a great base for exploring the Languedoc-Corbieres, the nearby Pyrenees or Mediterranean coast or just wandering around the village itself. The property is bright and light throughout and is built around a secluded, south facing courtyard surrounded by old stone walls. The courtyard is ideal for lazy breakfasts in the sun or al fresco evening meals. Ideal for families and small groups of friends and sleeps up to 11 people. However, the design of the house also makes the house great for couples or small families. The living room benefits from an open fire and upstairs, a mezzanine living room - which provides a lovely sense of space. An additional living and piano room can be closed off from the main living room ...This beautiful house, located in the heart of the medieval village, provides a great base for exploring the Languedoc-Corbieres, the nearby Pyrenees or Mediterranean coast or just wandering around the village itself. The living room benefits from an open fire and upstairs, a mezzanine living room - which provides a lovely sense of space. An additional living and piano room can be closed off from the main living room and can also be used for watching movies on a large HD TV (high speed wireless throughout the house). The five double bedrooms provide flexible accommodation. The house provides a great base for exploring the village and abbey (thought to be founded by Charlemagne in the VIII century). The village is unusually vibrant, with literary and music festivals, shops, cafes, restaurants and a patisserie. During the warm summer months, there is swimming in the Orbieu that flows through the village and the area is excellent for walking, cycling and natural history. Further afield. the Mediterranean is about 40 mins away, the Pyrenees about 90 minutes and Barcelona about 3 hours.More

About the neighborhood
The village provides an excellent base for walking and cycling. For those interested in wildlife, the area holds lots of interest. In spring, Spider orchids spring from the grassy meadows on the slopes above the village. Migrating honey buzzards and short-toed eagles soar northwards overhead. Hoopoes, Dartford warblers and Redstarts can be found in the local heathlands and vineyards and Blue Rock Thrushes and Black Redstarts sing from the rooftops. The area is also excellent for walking, cycling and running. Going beyond the village, spectacular Cathar castles, such as Peyrapetuse and Queribus perch atop the limestone mountains and provide exhilarating views and walking. The historic castle and city of Carcassonne and the beaches of the Mediterranean are less than 60 minutes away and...
How to get there
Great connections from UK, France and Spain. By air, accessible by Ryanair to Carcassone (40 minutes), Beziers and Perpignan (60 mins), Montpellier and Toulouse (both about 90 mins). Scheduled airlines fly daily to Toulouse - including British Airways and Air France. Ryanair also fly to Girona which is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes drive. Barcelona is a 3 hour drive. Hertz, Enterpise or Europcar for car hire. You can also get to within 15 kms of the village by taking a train to Lezignan station (on the line between Toulouse and Narbonne) from where you can cycle or take a short taxi ride via Fabrezan. From UK by train, take the Eurostar to Lille, have a quick coffee and change platforms to take the TGV to Narbonne. Then a short ride to Lezignan on the Toulouse line.
