200mtrs from the Lemon Tree house are two small secluded beaches only used and known by locals. The pretty village port of Nidri is a five minute gentle drive away, Nidri is a thriving and bustling port town with a wide choice of tavernas, coffee shops, bars and small shops. Like to people watch? The quayside of Nidri is perfect, park yourself on a bench and watch the world go by, take a lazy stroll past the yachts or even sign up to hire a small day yacht or motor boat. (cars and mopeds also available)A fifteen minute drive through the mountains will bring you to the picture post card village port of Sivota along with its waterside tavernas all selling fresh fish and bbq meats.Moving on a further 15 minutes to the ferry town of Vasiliki and suddenly you find wide sandy beaches with rolling surf (popular with younger people but by no means a lager louts paradise).A 25 minute drive up into the heart of the island and through pine forests will bring you into Karia a traditional unspoilt village with a public square shaded by old mature trees, in the square you can eat, do coffee and shop for traditional lace and embroidered soft furnishings. Whilst on the east coast of the island the waters are calm and gentle, the west coast is characterised by stunning blue waters and rolling waves crashing onto white sandy beaches, this side of the island is more rugged and mountainous but never the less is still accessible, taveranas will be found on the beaches but also perched on the side of a hill again with far reaching and breathtaking views.The main town of the island is Lefkas and offers everything from bars, tavernas in little back streets to boutique shopping, the main pedestrianised street of Lefkas is a great place to witness local greek men "doing coffee" not to mention the women that love to dress to impress whilst parading as if on a cat walk, but hey this is greece!Lefkas boast a large marina and is the first town that you enter as you drive onto the island via the swing bridge.The local airport is Aktion Preveza open fro May to October which is a leisurely twenty minute drive away from the island of Lefkada.
