The Hideaway, on a lovely woodland footpath on the Cateran trail, overlooking two beaver ponds and one beaver dam, is a little bit like a wildlife watching hide, but it is also a romantic off-grid glamping hut of great charm. It has a four poster bed, built from beaver cut wood, and a wood burning stove, two armchairs and a coffee table. There is also a table where you can boil a kettle or cook something up on a camping gas stove. Battery operated storm lamps and candles are provided for light but you may wish to bring your own torch or head-torch for trips to the loo in the dark. A z-bed can be made up on request for a small extra charge (or used with own bedding free). There is also a hammock which might be an option for a child. With such proximity to the beavers habitat at the front and a wood full of red squirrels behind, the Hideaway is ideal for lovers of quiet places and wildlife. 1 basket of fire-wood is supplied and extras are for sale at £5 a bag. The Hideaway guests may make use of the Yurt Facilities if needed, including a shower and room with wifi and tourist information. If you are not arriving on foot or by bike you can park your car nearby. The yurts are on the Cateran Trail so you can set off for a day’s walk in either direction. We can also arrange transport to and from any other sections of the trail.More

Interaction with guests
During a stay at Bamff you are more than welcome to ask Paul for a beaver walk. This involves walking through the woods, looking at Beaver dams, seeing all kinds of wildlife (including Otters, a wide variety of birds, and maybe even Beavers!) and having Paul explain about the local ecosystem and conservation efforts in this area.

This was our second visit to The Hideaway and we loved it once more. It's the ideal way to get away from it all. The hut is snug and cosy, the new woodburner and insulation were welcome additions. Facilities are basic: two gas rings for...More

This place is fantastic. Superbly equipped. Beautiful location. On top of that saw Beavers in the wild (must add at 5am). Will definitely be back in the spring/summer. Amazing. Aileen was great. Very helpful.

Absolutely love it in the hideaway. This was our second visit and we will be back again. I saw a beaver this time right out front of the hideaway and a red squirrel too. All the little extra additions are lovely.

We spent 3 nights here in Oct 2016. It was fabulous. We are experienced tent campers so are well used to the great outdoors. This was a little piece of luxury for the darker and chillier late autumn. Absolutely beautiful surroundings, we walked from the...More

About the neighborhood
Bamff is a small estate on the edge of the Scottish Highlands in East Perthshire. It is managed for organic sheep farming, timber, native woodland, forest regeneration, affordable housing and renewable energy. Over the last three decades there has been an emphasis on ecological management which has been assisted by two families of beavers and a herd of wild boar. The Cateran Trail, a circular walk of 64 miles through the spectacular and varied landscape of East Perthshire, from the open farmland on the edge of the highlands to the rugged mountain terrain of Glenshee runs through the estate. From April 2019 our little Honesty Shop will be selling a range of healthy meals, snacks and drinks in addition to firewood, charcoal etc.
Getting around
At Bamff you will mostly have to either walk or drive. To get anywhere farther afield than Alyth it is easiest to drive, however there is a bus link from Alyth Square which goes to Dundee as well as a variety of other places. There are lots of pleasant walks in and around Bamff Estate, particularly the cateran trail (walkthecaterantrail .com) which is a well sign posted walking trail. Bikes can also be hired from Alyth Cycles, a good quality cycle shop;(alythcycles .com).
