The Gate Lodge at the entrance to the Bamff Estate has been completely refurbished in 2016, with high quality fittings and keeping the lovely character of the original house. Nestled within its own garden, the Lodge is surrounded by trees and open countryside, yet is only 2 miles from the town of Alyth, with its cafes, bars and visitor attractions. The Lodge is ideal for a quiet, romantic break or as a family base for exploring Scotland. It is popular with nature lovers as its right on the Cateran Trail and is just minutes walk from the new beaver dams. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome. There is a good chance to see red squirrels, roe deer, beaver, otter, buzzards and even peacocks. Stayed here for a short break. The cottage was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped - though we also used the nearby takeaways in Blairgowrie. Bedrooms were comfortable and the heating system worked well, though seemed a bit complicated to use....More

About the neighborhood
Bamff is a small estate on the edge of the Scottish Highlands in East Perthshire. It is managed for organic sheep farming, timber, native woodland, forest regeneration, affordable housing and renewable energy. Over the last three decades there has been an emphasis on ecological management which has been assisted by two families of beavers and a herd of wild boar. The Cateran Trail, a circular walk of 64 miles through the spectacular and varied landscape of East Perthshire, from the open farmland on the edge of the highlands to the rugged mountain terrain of Glenshee runs through the estate.
Getting around
At Bamff you will mostly have to either walk or drive. To get anywhere farther afield than Alyth it is easiest to drive, however there is a bus link from Alyth Square which goes to Dundee as well as a variety of other places. There are lots of pleasant walks in and around Bamff Estate, particularly the cateran trail (walkthecaterantrail .com) which is a well sign posted walking trail. Bikes can also be hired from Alyth Cycles, a good quality cycle shop;(alythcycles .com).
