Halsbury is in the most perfect location in Appledore. Right on the quay. Whether you want to walk, sail or simply watch the world go by from the upstairs sitting room the position of this cottage is ideal.
There are local shops, cafes, book shop, antiques and 4 or 5 pubs all hidden down the little streets making for a very relaxing holiday with everything on the doorstep. Walking down the estuary around the corner onto Westwood ho's long and sandy beach was magic in the sunshine.
The cottage did have everything including a space for the car right outside but I felt it was a little dated. It had, what I thought to be the most uncomfortable settee. Possible dated around 1970!! Not much sitting around though. Also some flooring a little dated. Brilliant kitchen and bathroom and all the rest. Really hope we can return. We had a wonderful stay in a fascinating cottage steeped in family history

The Apple of my eye!
After a wet and windy couple of weeks in south Devon I felt the need to get away for a break. So I found this place right on the quayside. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the property. Large bedrooms, a large dining room and comfortable lounge. I then had a wander around the village exploring it's very narrow streets spotting some dog friendly cafe's and pubs. So glad to have discovered Appledore and will return again next Spring.

A lovely few days in Halsbury
We had a lovely few days in Appledore as a family and Halsbury was just perfect and beautiful views from the lounge.
The cottage is very homely and comfortable and has everything you need.
A lovely cosy winter break.
Highly recommended.

About the neighborhood
The small fishing village of Appledore stands in North Devon where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet before they flow into the Atlantic.
The quay is dotted with traditional fishing vessels, now rubbing shoulders with yachts and pleasure craft, offering cruises up and down the estuary.
Described by Victorian novelist Charles Kingsley as that ‘little, white fishing village’ Appledore’s maze of narrow lanes are an attractive jumble of closely packed, brightly painted cottages, decorated with hanging baskets.
The village now boasts plenty of arts and crafts, walks along the sunny, south-facing quay and along the river towards Bideford and Westward Ho! A variety of pubs and restaurants offer a wide range of local seafood.
Getting around
There is no real need for your car.
Serviced by local bus's to Bideford & Barnstaple for shopping, there is also the Tarka Cycle Trail close by and a seasonal ferry takes passengers to the pretty little village of Instow, with its sheltered stretch of sandy beach.
Pleasure and fishing trips are available from the Quay and plenty of walks which include the South West Coast Path, Northam Burrows and Westward Ho!
For the more energetic Westward Ho!, Saunton & Croyde offer exceptional surfing opportunities and beaches for family days out.

How to get there
On arrival in Appledore, descend the hill down to the Quay, proceed along the Quay past the post office on the left hand side and you will find Halsbury approximately 100 metres further along the Quay with a navy blue garage door.
Parking is available for free along the length of the quay and you can also get a small car in front of the garage doors. Alternatively you can also use the pay & display car park just along the quay. However, we have never found the need to pay for parking as we usually park in front of the house or manage to find a free space along the quayside.
You can park temporarily to the right hand side of the house to unload before finding a more permanent space to park.
