If this is not added to the booking fee we ask guests to leave the money in the honesty box on arrival. The cottage is strictly NON SMOKING. The cottage is set back from the road in a very secluded spot just 50 yards from Loch Rannoch and backs on to the ancient Black Wood of Rannoch for fantastic walking/running and mountain biking. The cottage comes with fishing rights and has its own stretch of lochside (please note the cottage is not located directly on the loch shore) where you can paddle about or go for a swim. Sit in the garden room to watch red squirrels, wood peckers and many other birds in their natural environment, just yards away. Vistor Feedback: 'Thank you very much for letting us use this very special cottage. We have holidayed in a few cottages & cabins over the years, but we have never felt so relaxed & refreshed as we have at West Carie. Sitting in the garden with the sun to the west with the quiet and stillness will be remembered for a long time, as will the beautiful scenery and walks. The walks on this holiday have been done at one pace (slow) but still crammed everything in, including Glen Lyon. The weather has been mixed but not enough as keep us in. Light waterproofs were all that was needed. As I write this I am thinking of the wonderful week we have had at West Carie Cottage and definitely this goes on to our short list of “return to”. Thank you very much again.' Cottage so peaceful & comfortable. Enjoyed the loch (boating), walking locally and seeing the wildlife which included a greater spotted woodpecker & large birds of prey. So many primroses and bluebells. A week was not enough.'More

Cosy, pet friendly, idyllic cottage in the perfect location
An idyllic cottage, very private with large garden, log burning stove, electric blankets in the master bedroom. Perfect for a week away with the family. The weather was a bit wet but it didn’t stop us exploring the area, peaceful walks up the forest track and in the woods. We ventured out to the falls of Bruar which was worth a visit, and had a drive over to Rannoch Station where we took a short walk to Loch Laidon and found a small beach it was beautiful, we watched 12 wild deer pass right in front of us on the path and couldn’t believe how close they were. Well worth a visit to the cafe at the station also the cakes were huge and delicious. The cottage is well stocked with logs, firelighters etc which was handy (left some money in honesty box) the kitchen is small and the cupboards pretty full so not a lot of space for storage but we managed with our groceries in baskets. 2 fridges which was great for storing drinks etc and a handy drying room. Underfloor heating was a nice surprise. We loved it here and Dawn and Hans couldn’t be more helpful such a lovely couple, hoping to be back again when the weather is a bit warmer to enjoy the beautiful garden.

Scottish Hideaway
Certainly the most ‘end of the world’ cottage I’ve ever stayed in, but Amazon will deliver within 24 hours to the doorstep, as we found when the kettle didn’t work ... ‘ding dong’ next morning there was a brand new one in the postbox.... very caring owner within an email away. Being well off the grid the WiFi is slow, the lighting gloomy, tv (SKY) hesitant, shower weak but good temperature and fantastic underfloor heating backed up by wonderful log fires in the lounge and main bedroom (!) that need to be seen to believed (free electric and wood supplies so don’t worry). All in all a brilliant week away if you want sightseeing and walking and love isolation. There are main shops in Aberfeldy and a local store within four miles (precisely)... Carie walks from the door as well as your own stretch of Rannoch Lochside twenty metres from the gated entrance where the whole Loch is available if you fancy a swim or to use your own canoe/boat. Closest thing to Algonquin Park (Canada) in the UK (without the moose, beavers and bears!).

Didn’t want to leave!
What a beautiful hideaway tucked in the woods, but with access to lovely spots nearby. The cottage is well maintained and I loved the wood burner in the lounge. Just to sit there on an autumn afternoon watching the birds outside in the garden was wonderful! Kitchen is well appointed with quality crockery, bedrooms cosy and really comfortable & nicely furnished. Great layout, as the master bedroom is next to the bathroom/toilet, and the other 2 bedrooms are next to the shower room/toilet. Everything very clean and works! The garden is beautiful, with lots of seating spots, and shade/shelter. There is a little gate in the back fence that takes you to a (nearly invisible) path and on to a forestry road that leads down to the lake & the private beach. Less than a 5 min walk, and felt safe with a dog (rather than walking down the drive and along the single track road). Dawn was very responsive when I had a query, and I appreciated the bottle of wine on arrival! I’ll definitely be back!

Superb Cottage
Just back from a lovely short break at West Carie Cottage. The house is superb and a real home from home with everything there anyone would need. It is just a stones throw from Loch Rannoch where the scenery is stunning. The location is very quiet and perfect for a relaxing break. Plenty of walks close at hand and perfect for dog owners like us. We will be back soon.

Another amazing stay in this beautiful place
Just got back from a two week stay in West Carie and the owners’ other holiday rental, Faunoran in Royal Deeside. West Carie is a beautiful and well furnished holiday cottage, with lovely little touches by the owners, Hans and Dawn. It’s comfortable and cosy, and there’s nothing better than coming back to this place after a long walk somewhere. It’s set in beautiful surroundings and is very peaceful. Ideal place for dogs, hiking, and just peace and quiet. Hans and Dawn are very accommodating and nothing is too much for them. They are always contactable if you need anything. Can’t wait to go back next year!

Perfect setting, very pet friendly cottage
The location was great near to the Loch. The cottage was lovely and the garden was absolutely gorgeous and very pet friendly. Definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a dog friendly holiday. There was only two of us, but it would accommodate a family of six. Would visit again.

Consistently high standard accommodation
Having stayed in various properties in this area, West Carie cottage is by far the most comfortable property we have taken. Previous reviews have covered the key plus factors. The cottage is very well maintained.

A great highland stay
This cottage is set in an idyllic setting, close to the banks of Loch Rannoch and close to lots of lovely walks. The cottage itself benefits from (what I assume) is the addition of a new living area with 3 large sofas, a TV which even has Netflix and a real fire. With 2 double bedrooms and a twin , this was a great getaway to come to with my friends and their boyfriends. There is even a tree swing, tyre swing and an area to have campfires outside. We were not stuck for entertainment as there is a vast array of board games too. We took full advantage of the kitchen/diner and ate in every night. Would not hesitate to recommend to a friend. Hope I can come back! Thanks

About the neighborhood
Loch Rannoch is located in the very Heart of Scotland in beautiful rural Perthshire. The area is easily accessible, yet remote and tranquill, offering the opportunity for a quiet and peaceful break from the pressures of modern life. The cottage backs on to the ancient Black Wood of Rannoch, a beautiful place to walk/run/cycle, and is just a few miles away from several Munros. Fishing rights to Loch Rannoch for two rods and the use of quality mountain bikes are included free of charge. The use of the bikes is at the owners own risk & we ask that guests look after the bikes with due care and report any issues so they can be seen to at the earliest opportunity.
