Amazing Location to get away from it all
This is one of the best French Holidays we have had , The Mill and its grounds are superb and the location is perfect for exploring the French countryside.
Many activites to keep everyone happy including cycling, walking and fishing in one of the many streams or in the mill the pond itself or even indoor fishing in the kitchen as the mill race goes right under the property.
lots of local places of interest including a silver mine and numerous country parks ,zoos and chateaux to vist aswell as some great local markets.
If you want a lovely french holiday and stay somewhere different we highly reommend the Le Moulin De La Combe.

A rather special place
We have stayed in a number of gites in France over the years, but the Moulin De La Combe surpassed anywhere we had stopped before. The grounds are a mixture of rockery and vegetable patches to the front (which is far more picturesque than I have managed to make it sound). To the side of the property is a rambling area of trees and grass, with a stream in which you can paddle or race walnut-shell boats. It is idyllic.
The swimming pool is in an enclosed area, and is just big enough to cool off in and splash around. Next to that are the terraced areas where we spent much of the day relaxing, or playing table tennis.
Inside, the mill workings dominate the lounge area. The lounge itself stays cool during the heat of the day, which is handy. The kitchen is a wonderful quirk of the property - all the usual facilities are arranged in a narrow passage, which shares the space with the mill race - water running through your kitchen is not, generally speaking, something you would look for(!) but in the mill it makes for a remarkable feature. The presence of a trout ready to eat pieces of bread just adds to it really.
Upstairs the bedrooms are neatly furnished, and use the mill's features to good effect, and the bathrooms are nicely fitted out too.
In all, we arrived exhausted after a busy year, and left relaxed and chilled, which tells me it is a great place. There is enough in the local areas to go and visit, and a range of supermarkets not too far away.
The owners are friendly and genuinely discrete, though always happy to help as required.

WONDERFUL STAY IN A FAB LOCATION
We were a family of 4 with 2 children aged 9 and 12 staying for a week.
The property is a former water mill that has been lovingly restored and is set amidst extensive gardens criss-crossed by small streams, one of which actually runs under the house. There was plenty of room for us inside and lots of play areas outside for the kids. There is also a pool to cool down in ! Barbecues are a must at evening time which is a very relaxing affair. The owner, Jason (who is English) and his family live next door and he is very obliging especially when explaining the local and regional places to visit. We were off almost every day and visited Niort, Venise Verte, La Rochelle, the Vendee coast and also had a day on Ile de Re. Melle, close by is a lovely town with all amenities and also has on old Silver mine to see.
Altogether a very rewarding stay in a lovely property, a hidden gem.

Phenomenal! Not to be missed
This Gite is absolutely splendid! Everything you will need for a superb holiday is provided, and the facilities and location, together with the sympathetic restoration are second to none. We have had the BEST time here and will be sorry to leave.
Other reviewers have said much about what's to do around here, so I won't!
We will visit Melle tomorrow for the weekly market
I would love to come back here some time... One day.
Will Bob The Trout or his successor still splash behind me in the kitchen, though? Is the question!

A truly French experience
We had a weeks holiday in this former water mill and it was just what we were looking for.
My husband and I have quite stressful jobs and we were looking for a get away from it all leisurely sejour and we found it the Deux Sevres region of Western France. It was a lovely setting and as a previous review states, a sympathetic restoration to the property which has left the heart and soul intact. The owners informed us that the property dates back several hundred years and we loved the old charm with a splash of the contemporary.
The large and private grounds ensure privacy.
We liked...
Lovely, typically French feel to the place.
The pretty village of Paizay le Tort
Silver mines at Melle
Restaurants and market in Melle
Thanks again, can we come back next year ?

Perfect !
What a fantastic place! Lovely gardens and grounds, the setting is magnificent and the quality of the accommodation is possibly the best we have ever found in many years of gite rentals in France. The attention to detail is outstanding - fresh flowers on the table when we arrived, welcome hamper with local produce, spotlessly clean and tidy with comfortable furniture and even a four-poster bed! We appreciated the helpful advice from the owners on places to visit and learning about the history of the mill. 4**** recommendation.

Beautiful property - friendly owners - perfect stay
Stayed at the restored water mill in May and the weather was kind to us making the whole trip very enjoyable. The property is down a lovely leafy lane in its own grounds and very imposing. The family are really welcoming and knowledgable about the area and recommended some great days out. Isle De Re is an absolute must! Overall, the accommodation, location and holiday was first class - highly recommended!
