Acanthus is just a few steps away from the market square, and the house is close to all amenities whilst not being close enough to them to suffer noise. You can get to St Chinian by public transport and if you don't want to stray from the village you don't have to, everything can be found locally. A car will allow you to explore the surrounding area, and St Chinian is ideally placed for visits in all directions. The area around St Chinian is ideal for all kinds of leisure pursuits, be it sportive (cycling, running, swimming, canoeing, hiking, climbing, riding), sightseeing or just relaxing.

Acanthus is a charming house in the centre of the beautiful village of St Chinian near Beziers. The house has all the comforts of home but with typical french features like shutters and old style windows. The little balcony is perfect to sit on for an early morning coffee or evening glass of wine as the sun goes down. The owners are very hospitable with excellent local knowledge. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely look to visit again in future years.

The village of St. Chinian is a beautiful place to spend some time in the Midi, and the hosts of Acanthus (Andreas and Anthony) are very welcoming and helpful. When I arrive from Canada I know that I will find absolutely everything that I need to live comfortably, from kitchen (amazingly well equipped) to the luxurious bathroom. The house is located only a few steps from the Grande Rue, and everything that it offers: restaurants, pharmacies, bakeries, and butchers. The twice weekly markets (again only a few steps away) are also not to be missed. I have stayed at other villages I n the Midi, and other houses in the village, but in my opinion, St.Chinian is the most welcoming and Acanthus is absolutely the best spot to use as a base for enjoying the Languedoc.

I've rented here many times, not just for the middle-of-everything location, but because it's unusually light and sunny for one of St. Chinian's old houses, with actually comfortable furniture, appealing decor, and just a tinge of agreeable funkiness, e.g. the bedroom-size bathroom, old stone staircase, ridiculous kitchen sink (which I've learned to love and would miss if it were updated). Mainly, it's impeccably and thoughtfully maintained by the friendly and helpful owners. As with most old houses in this region, you gotta like steps. The only possible shortcoming might be that, apart from the little balcony, there's no outside space or landscape view. But the whole lovely Languedoc is just outside the door!

We really enjoyed our stay. From Andreas,s warm welcome to the lovely house that we felt at home in straight away. The photographs don't do the house justice. Andrea s was very helpful and informative. The house contains everything required and one minutes walk from everything in the village. Lots to do from cycling mountain biking and hiking. A great base to explore nearby villages such as Minerve and Roquebrun and only 40 mins from beach. Biggest compliment I could pay was our teenager wanted to stay another week. Thank you Andreas we will definitely be back.

Comfortable, retro house in very good location within easy walking distance of all local shops and the great market which takes place on Sundays and Thursdays. Saint Chinian is a well placed little town within easy reach of the delights of the coast or a drive north will take you to some more interesting places in the foothills of the mountains. The owner speaks very good English and is very informative and helpful. Book and enjoy the local restaurants, good food and delicious local wine

We can only repeat the other reviews and add it was a wonderful stay in a great location . The welcome was as if we were old friends and Andreas gave so much helpful information on both the house and the town. It's no wonder so many people on this site have returned many times . I was very sad to leave. If I ever return to the region Acanthus will most definately be my place to stay. Thank you

I’ve stayed at Acanthus 6 or 7 times now, and will keep coming back to St. Chinian for the people, the village, the vineyards, the markets, the shops and restaurants, and for the warmth and beauty of Acanthus. The house and its furnishing are beautiful, so comfortable, bright, and inviting. And the village has everything that’s needed for a perfect holiday—gorgeous walks, friendly shopkeepers, amazing plat du jours, local wines and cheeses and fresh produce, markets twice a week, oh, and the patisseries…oh my… I keep going back, and can’t imagine going anywhere else in southern France.

This is our second time to stay at the Acanthus Holiday Home and we again had a wonderful visit. This is a very nice property which is well maintained and very clean. The largest bathroom we have ever seen! Wonderful little town with all the services to explore the Saint Chinian wine area. Andreas and Anthony are wonderful host who will help you with anything you need and information about the area. Highly recommend and will return in the future. Patrick and Glenda Rooney

The apartment was just perfect for us, very tastefully fitted out in authentic French style, very old, very spacious, fully fitted out and everything we needed for a four week stay. Apart from being very comfortable, there was a comprehensive book, DVD and CD library for our exclusive use as well as access to many UK and French TV channels. It was just a couple of minutes walk to the main street of this charming small French village which has banks, chemists, doctors, butchers, bakeries, supermarkets and many other services you would never find in a similar sized town (2,000) in Australia. If you want a taste of French rural life at its best this apartment and this village are ideal. The owners/managers could not have been more helpful to deal with and were very knowledgeable about not just the village but the whole of the district with lots of excellent suggestions for day trips to surrounding areas.

About the neighborhood
Saint Chinian has a long history, the first mention being the founding of a Bendictine monastery in 794. Some of the mediaeval streets remain, and the church has a beautiful pipe organ from the 18th century. Today Saint Chinian is a lively village of approx. 1800 full time inhabitants which is a great base for your holiday. The local winemakers produce excellent red, rose and white wines and vineyards abound in all directions. Saint-Chinian has a twice weekly market (Sunday and Thursday) throughout the year, and one of the highlights of the year is the Fete du Cru in July. The area around St Chinian is very good for walking and cycling, and there are many other leisure activities close by.
