About the neighborhood
Located along the Arno valley from the glorious Renaissance city of Pisa, visitors to Varramista will find themselves within easy reach of the world-famous attractions which the city offers; the Piazza dei Miracoli, with its famous frescoes by Gozzoli and Buffalmacco in the Camposanto, and of course the famous Leaning Tower, now a UNESCO world heritage monument. Also nearby is the Roman city of Lucca, whose famous town square echoes the shape of the amphitheatre which once stood there, and of course the famous Puccini festival celebrating the life and achievement of the composer.

Legend has is that the Varramista Estate was bequeathed to Gino di Neri Capponi (1350-1421) for his success in leading the Florentine militia against Pisa in 1406.

But Varramista is perhaps best-known for being the residence of the Piaggio Family, inventors and makers of the mythical Vespa scooter. Since 1990, Giovanni Agnell, grandson of Enrico Piaggio, made Varramista his home and began major works to convert its vineyards and organize guest accommodation.

The Estate stands on 400 hectares of land, which includes vineyards, planted fields, poplar groves and woodlands. The heart of Varramista is its main house located in the centre of a lush Italianesque garden and surrounded by three farmhouse, one of which is the Podere Il Monsonaccio.

In addition to the uniqueness of the surroundings, what makes the difference between a holiday on the estate and an everyday one, is how our guests are treated.

There is no pre-packaged formula related to the possibility to stay in one of the farms. Varramista always strives to create a "tailor-made" holiday for its guests.

The superior level of personalization concerns more than just the leisure activities and excursions (horseback riding, golf, torus dedicated to different Tuscan attractions) but also the way to use the various areas. Guests staying at Varramista can take advantage of a trained chef for the entire length of their stay, or any part of it, have groceries delivered upon arrival or every day, request babysitting services, or use of a chauffeur.

Some areas of Varramista can be used for events organization, such as weddings, photography shoots, fashion shows, board meetings and team building sessions.

The estate is also a special place thanks to its working farm, which produces exceptional wine and olive oil.

The winery does not function only to produce great wines. For our guests, it also represents a unique opportunity to experience every phase in a complete agro-food process, getting an up-close view of the most authentic aspects. Guests at Varramista can also take part in a guided tour of the cellars, observe the harvest and, finally, sample the wines, served with a selection of local culinary specialities.

For scooter enthusiasts, the Varramista estate’s historic links with the nearby Piaggio factory at Pontedera will evoke memories of a carefree youth on two wheels...as it was here, in 1947, that Dr Enrico Piaggio and his chief engineer Corradino D’Ascanio produced the first model of the Vespa, a vehicle which revolutionised Youth movements worldwide, while helping a shattered continent to get back to work, and it remains a testament to the elegant simplicity of this timeless design that production continues at Pontedera. A dedicated museum features every single model produced by the factory and some very rare examples of the six-day racing Vespas which triumphed in the annual Milano-Taranto race.

International guests who are interested in experimenting on a new type of vacation in Tuscany, find exactly what they are looking for in the Fattoria Varramista, with the added value of a superior quality, which has lead the estate to become more than simply a farm and holiday destination, but a "concept".
