Visited Penlan many times before and it never disappoints. We treat it as our bolt hole from the rest of the world. The location is peaceful and the gite perfect. Very clean with all the facilities you need. Hosts Richard and Claire are very welcoming and always on hand. Welcome pack is much appreciated including truly free range eggs from their own chickens. Will be visiting again.

Perfect Brittany
We read the great reviews before booking and it lived up to all our expectations. A super welcome after our journey and a perfect 'Welcome basket' which was extremely useful as it was Sunday and no food shops were open. The Gite is well equipped with everything you could want or need. The surrounding wood with its lovely walk to the river is just perfect. We would really recommend this Holiday rental and will be back.

Liebevoll gestaltetes Cottage in ruhiger Lage

I sound like a record that has got stuck!
Well. What can I say that hasn't been said already by previous guests? This is almost certainly the best equipped gite/cottage that I have stayed in for a very long time. Richard and Claire were very helpful and charming and I rather wish that we had more time to get to know them.
I have just thought of something that wasn't excellent. The weather! But there again, Richard and Claire don't have any control over that. Irrespective, we still got out and about and visited many stunning beaches and towns in the area. It really is a beautiful part of the country. In fact, we spent quite a lot of time looking in estate agents' windows........draw your own conclusions from that.
I know that many couples that have stayed at Penlan Gites have come back again and I would like to think that may well be joining their ranks at some time in the future.
Thanks again, Richard and Claire.

Peace & Tranquility in Brittany!
Fantastic stay in this rural gite. Richard and Claire have done a wonderful job developing this gite in idyllic surroundings. Sitting outside with just the sounds of the countryside was a real treat for us Londerners!
Make sure you have a car for exploring the region, traditional towns and villages, beautiful coastline, great beaches; all there the be explored.
For those looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in rural France, we cannot recommend it enough!

Perfectly located, space, comfort and super hosts
My girlfriend booked for us here. Booking for a gite remotely always comes with surprise. In that case the surprise was excellent!
What you read in other reviews is true, the welcome is very nice, with a bunch of presents to ensure you start your vacation right :)
The spot is really well located in the 'middle' of Bretagne which means you are never more than an hour area from any coast. Parking is no problem at all. You find also all the stores you need 5-10 min away by car.
We got the chance to be hosted in both gites. Both are VERY roomy. They are perfect for a couple with no kids.
The gites are HUGE, everything is perfectly clean and the hosts are really making sure you will miss nothing to enjoy your stay. As much as I like to review bad places to make sure the owners get what they deserve, I *really* want to report this place as a great one.
Native english speakers, you will have no problem in english with the owners.
You will not find much plastic there, things are made of stone and wood. However, you WILL find WIFI access if you wish and the comfort of a microwave, TV and satellite.
The beds are very good and the showers simply awesome. During our stay, we got a few nice surprises thinking "Did they think about providing this or that?", well, we checked out the drawers and it was all there.
The hosts told us they want to make a place where we would feel home, They succeeded very well. Not only we adopted our home for the week very quick but we enjoy our neighbours, present when we needed without being too intrusive.

The return visit was just as delightful as the first.
After a two year hiatus, we returned to France, Finistre, and Penland Gites; each was as rewarding as it was two years ago. Richard is the consummate host, providing transitional needs such as jams, wine, bread for the first night along with his ability and willingness to listen to what one might enjoy and providing information enabling one to do so. The gite is quite comfortable, fully equipped, set in a rural environment that provides peace without compromising ready access to all one might want to do in Western Finistre. We are already laying plans to return with friends for more coastal hikes at some point in the future.

Charming, comfortable apartment in rural Brittany
The gite is charming and very comfortable, with all the modern conveniences and everything you need for your stay (games, guide books, kitchen utensils, etc.). We enjoyed a really nice week-long "babymoon" here while waiting for the arrival of our first child. It is a romantic location in a lovely rural location. Just outside the door you find orchards and woods, and a short walk down to a stream. The location is perfect for exploring the Finistere region by car, which is lovely. Coming from Paris by car it makes for a really nice getaway and is clos enough to be doable for a long weekend.

Set in central Finistère, beautiful beaches, restaurants, creperies, historic towns, places of interest and other activities are all within a few kilometres of your Gîte holiday.
Penlan is in an ideal location from which to explore this beautiful and varied region of Western Brittany.
Cycling, walking, kayaking, horse riding and fishing are readily accessible for those of you who prefer a more active break.
The Gites are situated in the Amorique national Park which cuts across the centre of Finistere in Western Brittany. It is a central location to explore a diverse range of scenery from the Hills of the Mont D’Arree to the sandy beaches and rugged coast of the Crozon Peninsula.
Finistere provides a mix of forests, fast flowing rivers, hills and long sandy beaches and rocky coastal paths (something for everyone). Historical Towns and villages are in abundance through the region. Quimper is the main city and is one of the most stunning. Streets of Medieval buildings, shops and restaurants.
The Nantes Brest Canal runs through the picturesque town of Chateaulin and provides walking and cycling as far as you want along the tow path. It is a great location for fishing or kayaking for the more energetic.
Brittany has more than a third of Frances coastline and ranges from rocky cliffs to vast sandy beaches. Footpaths allow access to most parts of the coast, making for some interesting and varied walking. The sandy beaches of the Crozon peninsula provide the ideal location to relax and swim.
The local village of loperec has a restaurant, bar and shop, while Pont de Buis in the other direction has a supermarket, pharmacie, banks, boulangeries as well as restaurants and bars. Pleyben is ten minutes away and is a beautiful market town famous for its church. The estuary town of La faou just 15 minutes away is a must for its restaurants and Creperie, not to mention beautiful walks along the river.
The hills of the Mont D’Arree region, just ten miles away give spectacular views and a range of walking for all abilities. In this area the villages of Brassparts and Huelgoat can be visited. Huelgoat is situated by a lake and has a range of restaurants, creperies and bars.
