La Taverna is a very special garden apartment. Completely made of stone it seems as though it is carved out of the rock. There are 2 large rooms having golden stone arched walls and beams. Both have glass french doors leading directly to the garden. Ideal as a romantic hideaway for two. There is room for a child as well. Also great for two couples. Outside the living room is a walled stone courtyard where you will spend a lot of your time - eating and sipping drinks. Leading out from the bedroom is a private lawned area, shaded by hazel trees. Over the wall from this private garden is a communal pool area with an inviting swimming pool set in lawns. The pool is shared with just three other properties, all English owned, on a south facing hillside with wonderful views across the valley t...La Taverna is a very special garden apartment. Situated in a small farming community with a bar and restaurant. No cars pass by, only the cows! Experience Italian village life - verdant hills for walking, crystal clear river pool and you can still dine out for €10 including wine & coffee. More

Interaction with guests
The keys are available from a keysafe on site. You let yourself in. Fabrizio and Paola, a couple from the village, look after everything. You'll no doubt see Fabrizio cleaning the pool or cutting the grass. He can sort out any small problems you may have. He speaks no English, but picks things up quickly. His daughter-in-law, also in the village, speaks good English and French.

About the neighborhood
The area of Lunigiana in Northern Tuscany, is much quieter than central Tuscany, but with beautiful, sometimes dramatic scenery. The rugged Apuan Alps, often glimpsed in the distance, are the marble mountains of Carrara. The area resembles Scotland or Wales in many ways –the tourist office calls Lunigiana the Land of 100 Lakes, or the Land of 100 Castles – both sort of true! Prota is about 20 minutes from Aulla, the main town of the area, and where there is access to the Autostrada, and a good train station. Trains to Pisa, Lucca, Genova, Parma, Florence, etc. Italian trains are cheap and reliable. 10 minutes away are Monti and Licciana Nardi, with shops, bars and restaurants. Pisa airport is about an hour away – a very pleasant drive along the coastal autostrada, but Genova,Floren...
Getting around
You need a car to stay in Prota, as it is a couple of kilometres down to the main road with an infrequent bus service. However, the train links from Aulla or Villafranca are excellent if you want to visit Pisa, Florence, La Spezia, Parma, etc. It's about 2 hours to Florence, an hour to Pisa, the same as driving, but without the parking problems. Free parking at Aulla station, and in the street near Villafranca station..
