A newly converted single storey barn, Moorhen Cottage is a comfortable refuge in the heart of our organic dairy farm. One well behaved dog is welcome, (doggie rules apply!), bedlinen and towels are provided and underfloor heating and solar hot water will ensure you are comfortable in all weathers. Eastbourne is nearby with its historic pier, theatres, cinema, marina, shopping and coastline. TV/DVD. •Fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher. •Modern bathroom. •Spacious bedroom with superking size bed, can be arranged as twin beds if requested in advance. Activities on the working farm vary according to the time of year - in winter our herd of organic cows will be in the barns nearby, in summer they graze the fields and you may see them coming in for milking, or tractors bringing in the hay or silage crops. Guests are welcome to explore the farm, we provide several pairs of wellington boots but if you have your own it's a good idea to bring them!More

Wonderful cottage, beautiful views
The location of moorhen cottage is perfect - near the coast and the South Downs. Wonderful walks from the cottage. The garden is beautiful, with a seating area next to a wildlife pond, where we sat with a glass of wine watching the sunset. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, a large bedroom with a comfortable bed and the bathroom is huge! The sitting/dining area has patio doors leading out into the beautiful garden. The owners Marian and David are great hosts. We’ll definitely be back.

Fantastic cottage, idyllic location and wonderful people.
I had the pleasure, and I mean a real pleasure to stay in this lovely cottage for 5 weeks in Febuary 2019. The location is superb being located on a working organic dairy farm close to Herstmonceaux Castle and Science Centre. The views from the French windows and rear patio across Pevensey marshes toward Eastbourne and the sea are marvellous, and coupled with the peace and quiet a real dream location. Located in Watling village it is only a 5 minute walk to The Lamb Inn a quiet yet busy country Pub. A 10 minute car ride will take you to the neighbouring villages of Windmill Hill and Borehan street. I was lucky enough to be able to rebook for a further two weeks in May some weeks later........A real gem! I am reluctant to tell everbody about it. There you go, the secret is out!

A place to relax and feed the soul.
A well-equipped and pleasant single-storey dwelling with all mod cons. The hot water system somewhat mysterious. We didn't see the switch high up near the bathroom to activate the extractor fan and a light for the shower until Marion pointed it out. But it was a delight to sit, either on the pavement outside the french windows, or just inside if it rained or blew too hard, and take in the view across the Levels all the way to the Downs. A lovely holiday. We should like to go back.

Comfy cottage in idyllic setting
Ideally located for most attractions in Sussex . A peaceful retreat after a day exploring this beautiful area. We had a warm welcome from Marian, even though we arrived later than expected. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, plenty of room for a couple. We really appreciated the collection of books on the local area, which helped us plan our outings. The view from the patio is superb, especially first thing in the morning with the mist still giving an ethereal atmosphere to the 'levels' and rabbits breakfasting on the grass. If you like raw milk and organic yoghurt , you can get it fresh from the dairy. And of course the Lamb Inn is a only a short stroll away, with amazing food and friendly staff. We hope to return !

Zeer comfortabele cottage
Mooie cottage met nog oude elementen van de boerenschuur. Modern en comfortabel, van alle gemakken voorzien. Schitterende omgeving, bossen, steden en strand in de nabije omgeving. Een reis waard.

A wonderful hideaway in a fabulous location with incredible views. The cottage is really comfortable and well equipped. The setting is gorgeous and provided just the right environment for a peaceful and restful break. Don't forget to visit the dairy to get some delicious organic milk & yoghurt! Beautiful secluded cottage surrounded by picture perfect countryside
This was a great cottage with everything you would need. We came with our toddler and she loved it too, especially the cows next door. We will definitely come back here.

Truly outstanding cottage, heart-melting views, beautiful hosts & awesome wildlife...
Mr & Mrs Harding (the lovely owners of Moorhen) have created an organic haven for nature lovers. In many years of traveling, few vistas can equal that of the views out across the marshes from this beautiful little cottage. Draw your eyes in closer, to the cottage garden, and you'll find wild strawberries, herbs & aromatics to entertain your senses. The cottage is beautiful, having retained a true sense of its former glory ~ it's warm, cosy and beautifully designed & furnished to cater for your every need. We have never felt more at home in a 'holiday let'! Court Lodge Farm itself is a joy. We've loved waking to the sound of bird-song and the very happy cows that literally seem to chomp at the proverbial bit to get in the milking shed :) Please do not miss the opportunity to sample their organic yogurt & milk, or Ree's organic horse-drawn veg ~ it brings back memories of how our food used to (and SHOULD!) taste... Knowing that the surrounding landscape is organic, and very loved by its kind, helpful owners & farm crew, just adds to the perfection of this awesome place. We couldn't recommend it higher if we tried, and we'll be back, even though we're moving home to just a couple of miles away !!!

About the neighborhood
On the edge of the Pevensey Levels, with views to the sea and Eastbourne, We are in walking distance of Herstmonceux Castle with its moat and beautiful grounds, and Observatory science centre, and 10 minutes drive from historic Pevensey Castle. The cottage is warm and cosy and very private, the area is renowned for its wildlife and there are lovely walks across the fields and in nearby woodland, yet we are not too far from many interesting places to visit.
Getting around
A car is essential unless you're cycling, as there isn't any public transport to Wartling . If you're planning to visit London for a day out to see the sights the nearest suitable stations are Battle or Polegate. Brighton can also be accessed easily by train from Polegate - useful as the traffic into Brighton can be heavy at times.

How to get there
