About the neighborhood
San Vito dei Normanni, although not the prettiest of towns, is ideally located to explore all that Puglia has to offer. From there within 20 - 60 minutes you can reach the most beautiful world heritage towns and beaches (the nature reserve of Torre Guaceto). Ostuni is just 20 minutes away and a most beautiful town, but driving there you will see the first trullis after just a couple of kilometres from our property. Trulliland is about 30 minutes away just outside Ceglie Messapica. Some beaches are rocky and some beaches are sandy, ideal for young children. San Michele Salentino, just 10 minutes away has got some fantastic restaurants. There is too much to see, try and taste to mention it all here, come and explore.
We would say you definitely need a car, especially as a family. We do have bicycles and you can borrow them for free, but Italian drivers are not sticking to the rules and the roads are quite dangerous for bicycle riders. Having said that, there is a cycle route just outside the property which is reasonably safe, the route takes you both ways and you can even cycle all the way to Torre Guaceto. We try to keep up with the bicycle service, but should you run into trouble, there is an excellent bicycle repair in San Vito by the post office.
With the car you can explore all of Puglia easily, north towards Bari/Castel del Monte, west towards Taranto, Grottaglie (ceramic town), Mattera, the ionian coast with it's amazing beaches.
