Coqui’s Hideaway was the setting for one of our most memorable family vacations. It is so much more than a typical ‘vacation rental’! Our family of 4 (including 2 teens) spent 13 days at Coqui’s Hideaway. The house is in a convenient & gorgeous location. It was the perfect home base for our many adventures. (We explored El Yunque, Balneario Montserrat in Luquillo, Icacos Island, Mar Chiquita, Viejo San Juan, & more. We also hiked on a private trail from Coqui’s Hideaway to a gorgeous waterfall!)
The house is very comfortable & we appreciated the option of renting either 2 or 3 bedrooms (we chose 2 bedroom option- & had more then enough space to spread out)! The house is beautifully decorated, & has good quality bedding & towels. It is very clean & bright. We had everything that we needed and more. The ceiling fans & AC keep the house very comfortable, however we barely used the air conditioning. It cools off at night, and we loved opening the windows and listening to the incredible sounds of the coquis & rain forest at night.
The gardens are absolutely gorgeous. There are so many beautiful plants, orchids, fish ponds, tropical flowers & fruit trees. Every day I noticed some thing different that I had not seen before. It rained sporadically for a few minutes at a time, often followed by a rainbow!
The pool is the perfect place to cool off after a day of exploring. We enjoyed cooking out at the grill by the pool, and even hung out during a rainstorm under the pergola. The full bathroom by the pool is another convenience.
The hosts, Gwenn & Ray live on site & were available if we needed them. They are very respectful of their guest’s privacy and gave us plenty of space. When we arrived there were welcome baskets of fresh fruit from their garden, homemade bread, traditional Puerto Rican candies & supplies for making our own piña colada’s. This was such a thoughtful touch & a real treat! We thoroughly enjoyed the papayas, mangoes, avocados, bananas, passion fruit, miracle fruit & the other fruits they provided!
We appreciated having the hosts on site, & enjoyed our conversations with Ray- who shared a lot of great stories & helpful tips throughout our stay. (We also relied on their blog, puertoricodaytrips.com for planning our excursions. Gwenn is a fantastic writer & her articles are so thorough & very helpful- especially for exploring PR ‘off the beaten path’).
I was especially curious about conservation work that is being done in Puerto Rico & was thrilled to accompany Ray & Gwenn on their turtle watch (checking nesting sites of endangered leatherback sea turtles). We saw one baby turtle make its way to the ocean- an experience I will never forget!
It was very hard to leave Coqui’s Hideaway! We hope we’re able to return again!!
