There truly aren’t words to capture the experience of staying at Shiraume/Baian, everything is exquisite. The food, accommodation and hospitality of Tomoko and her team are unparalleled. The location is also excellent. The rooms are very well appointed and the food was some of the best we’ve ever experienced. Every detail is thought of. We cannot wait to come back! A perfect stay!

This was the best place we stayed in Japan. The service was impeccable and Tomoko and her team work hard to make your stay very special. We were too early for breakfast on our last day so they made us a delicious bento box. You could have an in room massage but this is very strong.

What an amazing experience! Tomoko and her team will make your stay one of a lifetime. This ryokan is SO beautiful, with great attention to detail, comfortable, food is delicious, it is as perfect as it can be. Tomoko shared some stories from her family and the city, so interesting! And of course she knew lots of tips for sightseeing and discovering Kyoto. We were a family of 5 and booked 2 rooms, spacious, with great AC and amenities. I browsed lots of ryokans and I feel blessed that I chose the perfect one! Tomoko-san, we can't wait to go back! Thanks for everything!

It’s my third time staying at Shiraume over a decade. The first time I went with my sister and her husband; the second time I went with my husband for our honeymoon; and the third time I went with my husband, my sister, and my 7-year old niece. Our Kyoto visits could have not been so perfect each time without Shiraume, Tomoko, and her team. The place itself was already like a dream. My husband’s exact words were: it’s heaven on earth! But it’s Tomoko’s personal touch, her genuine care about her guests, that made it a home away from home for us. Every meal was thoughtful prepared to the highest quality and introduced to us in such a meaningful way. The rooms were always so comfy with amazing amenities. We often found handwritten notes in the room, addressed specifically to us. Super sweet ❤️ In our most recent trip Tomoko even prepared fireworks for my niece to play outside the ryokan. I can’t say enough great things about Shiraume. It will always hold a special place in our hearts. We can’t wait to visit it again!

It was our fifth stay at Shiraume and we were pampered as always. We stayed at the Umekoyomi room for one night. We had stayed at three different rooms at Shiraume (Umekoyomi, Umeichirin & Umegae) and Umekoyomi has become our favourite one. The room overlooking the Shirakawa Canal was spacious enough and very cozy. It was well-appointed and elegantly decorated. One of the jacuzzi baths is right opposite the room. The service was amazing and personable. Nothing was too much trouble for Tomoko san and her lovely team, who went out of the way to make our stay memorable. The food was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Every dish was explained to us in detail, making the meals even more enjoyable. Staying in a ryokan is a very special experience and you cannot go wrong with Shiraume. We will definitely return again.
