Exploring the great landscape of the southwest can be done most thrillingly by hiking the many trails in Tucson. Sabino Canyon Recreation center overs a great many trails to the nature lover. One particular trail is highly recommended: The Breakfast Canyon Trail. At a little over 5 miles of hiking, the breakfast canyon trail head begins right down the creek a few meters from the Sabino Canyon recreation center.
How to get to get to Sabino Canyon: Located in the Catalina Mountains, Sabino Canyon is also part of the Coronado National Forest. Head north of Tucson to Tanque Verde Road. Turn left on Sabino Canyon Road and stay on until you get tot he recreation center. The Canyon offers beautiful scenery, washes, water falls, creeks, great trails for hiking and biking, picnic areas and view points that take your breath away.
The Hike: This is a beginners hike with little elevation gain. It is a great hike to do in the evening especially during the full moon as it offers great views of the moon rising over the mountains. The trail is even for the most part but a small gain in elevation between Sabino Lake Trail and the end of breakfast canyon has a narrow foot path (be careful here). It is a great family hike if you do not have children under the age of 6 with you. This is a great hike for first time visitors to Tucson as well, hiking is a healthy option that keeps you in good shape while you are away from your routine day or your gym.
