Before you go out, pick up a copy of one of the local free papers ( The Stranger or Seattle Weekly) near the door of most coffee shops, and check out what's on the calendar.

Bars and Brew Pubs are a popular hangout (after coffee shops). The most dense areas of these are Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square and Belltown. Dance Clubs are also in these areas. If you like salsa and swing, check out the Century Ballroom on Capitol Hill, just off Broadway. Take note that smoking was recently prohibited from indoor public spaces. Pioneer Square clubs are accessible with a transferable admission. Club hop four square blocks until you find your scene. For a change of pace, seek out the Pink Door's cabaret lounge, you'll find the door (pink) in an alley near the Pike Place Market. The Last Supperclub and Trinity Nightclub have electronica, from trance to progressive to house; often the acts are world-class DJs that play in cities the likes of New York, Los Angeles, London, Rio de Janiero, etc...

As far as the Lounge scene goes, the best is See Sound Lounge, located in the heart of Belltown, a few streets north of the Pike/Pine corridor.  Twilight Martini Lounge also has chill music and a great happy hour.

Live Music is all across the city. The jazz scene can be heard at the Triple Door and Jazz Alley as well as many other bars. Live theater ranges from Broadway shows at the Paramount and 5th Avenue, to independent productions in Fremont and on Capitol Hill. The Seattle Opera is ranked one of the top companies in the country, with a new facility, it is sure to impress.

Bowling, billiards and bar (along with a shuffleboard) awaits you at the Garage Bar on Capitol Hill near Seattle University on Broadway.  These are high quality full-size tables, a new eight lane bowling alley and a trendy bar to hang out with the locals. Great happy hour from 5 - 7pm.

The Six Seven at the Hotel Edgewater offers fine entertainment for nightlife while visiting Seattle

If you're seeking a late-night caffeine buzz to keep you going, there's a 24-hour Starbucks at the University Village shopping center. This Starbucks is near the University of Washington freshman dormitories, so it's usually full of studying students, regardless of the hour.

Add: Gay & Lesbian scene is primarily on Capitol Hill.
