While not a traditional publication, one of the most interesting sites for those interested in the cuisine of New Orleans.  It is written by an attorney who makes his home in New Orleans, and is always full of information, reviews, links and recommended reading. The site is particularly interesting right now, as New Orleans recovers from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The web site’s author provides updates on popular restaurants that are re-opening, and status reports on those that were badly damaged. He also provides lots of links to other resources for finding out about returning to New Orleans as a tourist. If you visit Appetites, please keep in mind that this site is a labor of love for its author, and he does not purport to be an expert or a food critic. He just loves food and loves his city.

Anyone visiting New Orleans might want to read Frenchmen, Desire, Good Children And Other Streets Of New Orleans by John Churchill Chase.  He explains the origins of the street names and while doing so gives a history lesson which is as entertaining as it is informative.
