Almost everything about Gatlinburg is family friendly.  The main strip through town boasts a number of family oriented tourist attractions such as water slides, bungee jumping, mini-golf, candy and sweet shops, and a seemingly endless array of other attractions that give this downtown a carnival-like atmosphere.  The family-friendly atmosphere carries over into the local restaurants as well, providing the parents with hearty southern specialties while giving the kids a fun environment.
One of the best known family attractions in the region is in nearby Pigeon Forge, "Dollywood," the country music theme park created by famed singer Dolly Parton.
The kids will also have fun at the Dixie Stampede, a southern-themed dinner show that features music, comedy and much more.
Finally, the ultimate family attraction in the area may be Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take the kids for a ride through the park and get out and walk around with them.  They will enjoy the great scenery and opportunities in the park to do things like biking, horseback riding, fishing and hiking.  Drive straight through the park and the kids may also be interested in having a look around the town of Cherokee, part of the Cherokee Indian Reservation and a town that welcomes many visitors each year to shop in their various souvenir stores and handful of Native American cultural/education spots.
