All of the major car rental companies are available in Jacksonville and renting a car is an option if you're planning on visiting more than just downtown Jacksonville.  The city is one of the largest in the continental USA which makes using public transportation time consuming.  Car Services are always and option and can be just as easy as a rental car.  

From the airport, you can get a taxi, which will get you to downtown Jacksonville for about $45 dollars.  Sedan & Taxi service is available from a number of companies, including, Gator City Taxi, Checker Taxi, City Cab, and Yellow Cab.  Fares to the beaches and Amelia Island are in the $100 range.  A shuttle service (Gator City Shuttle) costs approximately $40 for one to four people going downtown and $80 for one to four people going to the beaches and Amelia Island.

Black Car Sedan Services are Available from & Uber. Sedan & Limo service averages $45 from JAX to downtown and $100 to the beaches and Amelia Island. Black Cars to Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach and Mandarin cost about $120. For limos, reservations are required, Sedans, & Black Cars can be scheduled ahead from Jax Black Car & East Coast Transport. UberBlack is On-Demand. 

You will be able to hail a cab in downtown Jacksonville, but it's best to call a Car Service like Jax Black Car, East Coast Transportation or Use Uber outside of the downtown area.  

Getting Around Jacksonville 

Getting here is a breeze. And getting around is easy too!

In addition to planes, trains and automobiles, you can visit shops and restaurants by water taxi, search for craft treasures via the monorail skyway system or catch a quick lift on a downtown trolley.


Jacksonville International Airport is your new gateway to Northeast Florida. JAX  is located 12 miles or about 20 minutes from downtown. With 15 airlines making 250 daily arrivals and departures, non-stop and direct service is available from most of the nation's metropolitan areas. Amtrak offers a relaxing option to get to Jacksonville from around the state and from around the country. You'll have room to stretch, play, sleep or watch the scenery roll by. The Amtrak station is located north of downtown at 3570 Clifford Lane.


Interstate 95 runs north/south through Jacksonville: Interstate 10 runs east/west through Jacksonville; I-295 Makes a loop around Jacksonville; J. Turner Butler (JTB) provides an easy trek to the beach running east/west to and from Jacksonville and the beaches; I-75 is nearby and provides additional interstate connections. From downtown, the Matthews Bridge takes you to the Commodore Expressway which runs down Atlantic and Beach towards the Northern Beaches Atlantic, & Neptune.
