Many of the activities in and around Bar Harbor revolve around water sports. Visitors can either go on self-guided adventures, or they can join a tour group. Joining a tour group has its advantages because many times the tour company will have equipment that can either be borrowed or rented.

National Park Sea Kayak provides a great alternative to the busy pace of Bar Harbor by taking visitors to the "Quiet" western side of Mount Desert Island on their well-reviewed ecological kayak tours. 4-hour tours with experienced guides are offered from May thru October by this locally owned and operated outfitter.
Acadia Park Kayak Tours is a company based in Bar Harbor that gives tours on both sides of the island, is focused on environmental education, and offers the possiblilty of small six person group tours as well as the twelve person tours the other outfitters typically offer. They also offer nighttime star gazing tours and private tours.
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling: Diver Ed offrers great tours where you get to watch him dive from a video screen on his boat as he explores the ocean floor. He also brings various sea creatures up onto the boat and into a salt water tank so everyone can see them up close.

Whale Watching: Bar Harbor Whale Watching Tours are available all summer long. The tours usually include tours that travel near lighthouses and other natural attractions (not to mention the whales that should be seen on every tour).
