No traveler to the Big Island of Hawaii should miss a visit to the Parker Ranch Museum and the Parker Ranch Historic Homes located in the town of Kamuela.  What a delightful experience!  The Estate is a treasure-trove of Hawaiian history, especially the story of the Parker family who created and operated the largest privately owned cattle ranch in the United States dating back to the time of King Kamehameha.

The beauty of the historic homes and gardens is well worth a stop, and the breath-taking views of snow-capped Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain in the world measured from its base on the ocean floor, is a sight not soon forgotten.  The highlight of a visit is listening to the interesting stories of old Hawaii as told by Suzi, a Hawaiian-born docent at the Parker Ranch.  Her presentation is very informative and a lot more humorous than James Michner's book Hawaii.
