Nightlife in Milwaukee is alive and well, improving every year with the establishment of new venues and clubs all the time.
Several areas of the city proper boast lively bar scenes including North Ave. and Brady St. on the trendy East Side, Water St. near downtown and the Historic Third Ward. Every taste from the dive aficionado to the cocktail connoisseur to the club hipster can be satisfied in this renaissance city.
East side hot spots not-to-be-missed include Wolski's Tavern (of " I Closed Wolski's" bumpersticker fame) [1836 N. Pulaski St.], The Nomad World Pub [1401 E. Brady St.], a The Hotel Foster [2028 E North Ave].
Downtown, Mo's Irish Pub [142 W. Wisconsin Ave.] dominates the bar scene, but the chic jazz/cigar/martini bar Blu atop the elegant Pfister hotel [424 E Wisconsin Ave] and the hip dance club Eve [718 N. Milwaukee St.] bring a wonderful diversity to the area (note: as of 11/2008 Eve is closed).
The Third Ward's Milwaukee Ale House [233 N. Water St.] rewards its Thursday night patrons with swing dance lessons and top-notch microbrew (which, thankfully, is served every night).
To the south of Milwaukee, Bay View offers a neighborhood environment with several great neighborhood joints including Burnhearts [2599 S Logan] and Blackbird Bar [3007 S Kinnickinnic Ave].
Friday night at the
Lakefront Brewery [1872 N. Commerce St.] serves one of the city's best fish fry's (a must-eat tradition) along with a best-in-show brewery tour (includes a pint glass and 4 samples) and, in true Wisconsin fashion, a lively polka band.
The Potawatomi Bingo Casino is a twenty-four hour entertainment destination that attracts tourists from throughout the Midwest. Bringing in dozens of millions of dollars to the city every year, residents and visitors alike break bank here.
If college bars or casinos are not your scene, and you are looking for excellent cocktails and a unique environment, try the oldest cocktail lounge in Milwaukee and James Beard semi-finalist Bryant's Cocktail Lounge [1579 S 9th Street]. Their unique drinks and classy environment will not leave you disappointed. The Hi Hat Lounge [Brady and Arlington] is a busy and hip martini lounge on Brady Street. For a great whiskey selection, try Nessun Dorma [2778 N Weil] or the Palm Tavern [2989 S Kinnickinnic].
