The Canyons is an area more known for ski vacations and the resorts tend to be oriented to that clientele. However it is not bad for a summer trip. If you are in Park City anyway, it provides at least an interesting side trip. New resorts and the likely addition of a Vail managed ski operation are making the Canyons the latest 'hot spot' at the edge of Park City. Several new resorts by major players have already opened with more to come. The new facilities are in keeping with the area but the wilderness of the Canyons is being invaded by new construction. Many more new shops and commercial venues are sure to follow.

Since the Canyons area is still being developed it does not have the business amenities like clubs, shopping and attractions that can be found in the Old Town area.  On site you can walk to a small village business district and the ski lifts which are fun.  Some resorts offer shuttle service to Old Town.  However, unless you are willing to be restricted to a few expensive, resort based offerings, it is imperative to have a car.  The nearby (2 miles) Tanger Outlet stores, movie theaters, Walmart and several good grocery stores can easily be reached by auto. Salt Lake City is only about 30-40 minutes away via interstate highway.

The Canyons area includes a range of accommodations but typically condos which are upscale and well equipped.  Resorts include ski in – ski out convenience and services.  A number of privately owned condos and homes are available for rent.
