Galveston does have an airport - the Scholes International Airport   - so, if you have your own aircraft this is a great place to fly into for a quick getaway or even for business. At GLS there is never a charge for aircraft or vehicle parking.

If  you are planning to fly on a commercial airline for your visit, you will need to fly into either Houston Hobby ( HOU) airport or the Bush ( IAH) airport. Hobby airport caters to smaller airlines like Southwest and AirTran, while IAH is a major international airport serving all airlines.

If you decide to rent a car and drive to Galveston, brace yourself for at least an hour drive – that is not including traffic. During peak travel hours/tourist season the traffic getting into Galveston is bumper to bumper.
