While in Edinburg, please visit the Museum of South Texas History.  In 1970, the museum opened its doors as the Hidalgo County Historical Museum in the 1910 Hidalgo County Jail, a Texas State Historical Landmark.  Through the vision and support of many, the museum has grown into the largest historical museum in the region.  Its name changed in 2003 to better reflect the scope of its mission to preserve and present the borderland heritage of South Texas and northeastern Mexico.

At the very core of the Museum of South Texas History is its unique collection of historically significant objects and archival material pertaining to the heritage of the borderlands of South Texas and northeastern Mexico.  The conservation, research, and interpretation of this collection is presented in state-of-the-art exhibitions that offer an educational, enlightening, and enchanting experience to visitors of all ages.
