Bandera town – great little place, very friendly, good place for very cheap high quality jeans, real Stetson cowboy hats, shirts, antiques and native American jewellery. Also Arkey Blues Silver Dollar. (see photos and read on for more info on Bandera)
Bandera town is a great little place to spend some of your non riding time. If you are into antiques and collectibles, plan at least two whole days to explore fully the large emporium and the two antique stores. Thousands and thousands of items for sale although most Brits would think these more like ‘car boot’ shops than real antique shops. However there are some real gems hiding away just waiting for you to rummage them out.
The Cowboy store will tog you out in all things Western and Cowboy; Stetsons, shirts, boots and a nice jacket.
The 11th street bar has regular concerts and is a great place for a night out. The Old Spanish Trail restaurant will satisfy anyone’s food needs if you missed out on a meal at the Ranch. It’s a great place with Steaks, Shrimps that to Brits would be called Lobster tails and much much more.
The river that runs through Bandera has a very long "u" shaped bend which takes it away from town and then back again some distance later. This means that kayaks can be hired where by one can paddle along for ages and return back to Bandera some time later without turnin back. Another fantastic way of spending a couple of very relaxed cooling hours is to hire a "Tube", basically an over inflated inner tube from a tyre and then floating along the river going with the flow which once again brings one back to town; sheer bliss in the hot Texan sun.
The real gem of Bandera has to be “Arkey Blues Silver Dollar”; a real old honkey tonk bar, sawdust on the floor and loads of country music and cowboy memorabillia on the walls, where the locals sit around and jam together singing all things country. This is the real thing; it’s not a touristy designed fake. It is used by locals and is very friendly. Playing pool together in there and being challenged by a couple of local gents, who later turn out to be great guitar players and singers.
There are some great Rodeo's during summer in Bandera as well as a few Dude Ranches.
