At its core, Westerly is a beach town. That means water sports and other water and beach related activities take center stage here.

One of the prime activities in Westerly during the busy summer season is lounging on the beach. There are more than 7 miles of beach here, so there should be enough space for everyone, but some beaches fill up quickly during the summer, especially on the weekends, so if you plan to hang at the beach, arrive early to stake out your spot.

If you want to do a little something more than just sit and people watch while working on your tan, check out some of the various water sports available here. Go boogie boarding (East Beach is considered the best spot for this), or jet skiing.

To enjoy the view and get a little exercise at the same time, consider a bike. There are plenty of hiking trails around Westerly. There are literally hundreds of acres of marshes, ponds and nature areas ready for a good hike. In particular, in Westerly, head for Moore Woods, which features pastures, wooded wetlands, plantings of native and exotic trees and more. It’s open from 6 a.m. to sunset each day and can be found on East Avenue; the entrance is marked by two stone pillars.
