If you aren't familiar with the weather patterns of the northeast, it's important to note that there can often be very harsh winters. With that in mind, you might want to consider visiting Wilkes Barre in the spring, summer, or fall. There are festivals and events going on in the city all throughout the year, but if you visit during those months you will have the best chance of having good weather, as well as being able to hang out outside. The Wyoming Valley has a pretty mild climate pattern, especially for winter time, but you will still have to deal with the lower temperatures and snow storms. When you visit in the spring and summer the city really comes alive, and it's a great time to come out. Because of the college atmosphere in the town, there is a youthful attitude in the area as well. Everyone is outdoors playing sports or walking around, and it seems as though every street has something else interesting to do. When you visit during this time of year you should pack clothes that will keep you comfortable. Shorts and t-shirts are good, but you should also bring a pair of pants for later at night, as the temperature can often dip pretty low.
