The performing arts scene in Blowing Rock and its surrounding area is musical, theatrical, and vibrant.

As of this stub submission, the Blowing Rock Stage Company is about to undertake its one hundredth show.  The organization has provided a popular stage for the town and the greater High Country region of North Carolina for years, knocking out numerous reproductions of famous plays and musicals as well as experiments with lesser-known works so as to maintain diversity in season schedules.  Soon the troupe will be housed in a better facility, an inevitable occurrence that testifies to its growing popularity and revenue intake.

Just outside Blowing Rock, the Barter Theatre and its second stage also put on numerous productions throughout the year and have a relatively full schedule of youth productions, which are undertaken by its subsidiary Player Company.

Finally, a multitude of summer and fall music festivals add to the city’s artistic identity.  Should you visit during these seasons, check the Sunday Concert in the Park or the Mountain Home Music series, put on in the summer and fall respectively—the latter representing one of the finer Appalachian celebrations around.
