Getting Around Syracuse is easiest by car, however there is very adequate bus service, Centro and short train rides to key locations when there's a special event going on. Major Highways and Airport make for easy access in & around Syracuse, NY.
Local Bus = www.Centro.org
Downtown intersection of Fayette St & Salina St. is the "transfer center"...note it's basically 4 corners, no "official" indoor building (this lack of indoor waiting area has always been a drawback). They offer excellent support to Syracuse University & SUNY area and downtown via the recently named "Connective Corridor" route. Good support to OCC also. Centro also has routes to outer suburbs, all directions, including Fairmount, Camillus, Liverpool, Cicero, N. Syracuse, Dewitt, Manlius, etc. Local city connection such as Auburn, Oswego, Utica.
Regional / National Bus & Train = Greyhound & Amtrack
The "Regional Transportation Center" is the major hub for greater Rail/Train and Greyhound Bus Services. New facility in ~2002, with parking onsite, and indoor waiting areas. This is located adjacent to the Alliance Bank Stadium (baseball) and the Regional Farmers Market property. Destiny USA, a shopping and entertainment complex (formerly, Carousel Center Mall) is across the road. It's about 3 miles north of downtown Syracuse & 5 miles from the Airport.
Local Train / Rail = ONTrack
Key stop locations are the Regional Transpo Center, Carousel Ctr Mall, Armory Square and SU - by the Carrier Dome. Service is limited to FRI, SAT, SUN and special events only. Hourly stops typical. Makes park & ride a great option, as parking can be limited at SU. Cheap - about $1.50 per person!! They also do "special trips" for longer rides, call or visit www.centro.org for a link.
