Syracuse has a continental climate that sees four distinct seasons. Weather greatly varies on weather passing through the nearby St. Lawrence Valley which can at times bring cold air fronts and add more snow onto the already cold winters.  Winter temperatures do average out below freezing and the cold winds can push it down below zero and times with nasty wind chills.

Summer and fall are the tourist high seasons. Weather in the summer is warm but not hot with averages in the 60s that go up with the sun but fall at sun down. In fall cooler weather moves in but is usually quite comfortable in the 50s. The gorgeous fall foliage in the region gives many people reason to hop in the car and make the drive to Syracuse for a weekend getaway.

There are several great festivals that may tempt you to visit over their dates. The summer months host the majority of the events such as the Taste of Syracuse in June which also sees the Polish, Greek, and jazz festivals. More culture fests follow in July with Middle Eastern Culture Festival and in August, Euro Fest.  Late August through early September, Syracuse hosts the New York State Fair.
