Frankenmuth is known for famous chicken; friendly hospitality; cool shopping; family friendly fun and they do it so well thru  many FESTIVALS offered year round!  When Bavarian Inn Restaurant first looked "Bavarian" with a remodel in the late 50's they had a grand opening celebration with bratwurst, beer & polka music.  That turned into Frankenmuth's oldest festival... the Bavarian Festival.   Over the years, festivals have expanded into just about, every month of the year.  Here is a quick overview of the most major events of the year!

 Zehnder's Snowfest - January - A major festival with snow carvers from around the world, North America and the State of Michigan competing for the best sculptures.  Fireworks included on Saturday night each year!

 Bavarian Easter Celebration - March&April - the entire Community shows off with an old world tradition of Easter decorations.  This concept dates back to Paegen times over 500 years ago where Europeaners celbrated Spring by decorating their village wells and giving thanks for a safe winter and their water source.  Today hundreds of small German, Austrian & Swiss communities continue the celebration... and so does Frankenmuth!

Bringin-Back-the-80's - April - a super fun festival that celebrates everything 80's.  Held in Heritage park this event attracts 8,000 plus visitors over the weekend with the drinks, music and dress of the 80's.  Pull out your best 80's look and dress up - thousands of people do! Yes a little beer is known to be consumed to the sounds of Journey, Kiss and all your 80's favorites!

 World Expo of Beer - May Over 50 Breweries come together to compete and get bragging rights  on avoer 150 beers and brews from accross the Nation and state of Michigan.  Sampling is available to adults over 21 of these hand crafted brews with the brewers present to discuss their product and vie for medals in the competition!  the largest brew tasting event in Michigan - by far!

Great Lakes Regionand & Michigan State Hot Air Balloon Championships - May- 40 hot air balloons ascend over Frankenmuth on 7 separate flight attempts over Memorial Weekend.  Winners of these events quality for Hot Air Balloon Naitonal Championships.  This event brings in the best-of-the-best ballon pilots from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wicsonscin.  Balloon glows on three evenings adorn the night sky with beautiful balloons.  Walk amongst the balloons and meet the pilots and learn about this unique sport each night!  This is a free event!

Dog Bowl - - May -  known to be America's largest dog event of its kind.  Enjoy over 40 different dog competitoin and interactive events.  From a pet parade (yes your dog can be in it) to Dock dog and Disc Dog competitions.  Get a great belly laugh from the Wiener dog races (usually over 250 daschunds competing) and enjoy numerous animal based exhibitors.  This event and the hot air balloon compeition are both over Memorial Weekend.  This is a Free event held at and around Frankenmuth River Place Shops!

Bavarian Festival - June - the annual event that celebrates their Bavaian, German heritage with the foods, music and dance of Germany.  Enjoy one of Michigan's oldest and largest parades on Sunday afternoon with street vendors and bratwurst available in so many places.

Volkslaufe - the "Peoples Race" - July - this event attracts nearly 4,000 runners each year in 20k, 10k, 5k and a fun run race on the morning of the 4th of July.  Fireworks and a spaghetti dinner are offered the night before with traditional music known year round in Frankenmuth!

Farm-Fest - August -  located at Bavarian Inn's Heritage Farm near Bronners.   This event celebrates the farming aspect of Frankenmuth with a living farm, a tractorshow and tours of the entire farm incluidng the re-located Hart one-room school haus; the Eischer home (never had running water or a bathroom in it) and so many hands on experiences such as bread made in the brick oven, home-made icecream and kettle corn... all made the way they did a hundred years ago.

Summer Music Fest - August - This long standing festival celebrates german, polish, slovanian and a little american music.  one of the largest wooden dance floors you will ever see is ready for the hundreds of dancers that enjoy this festival all weekend long!

Frankenmuth Auto-Fest - one of Michigan's largest car shows takes over Frankenmuth the weekend after Labor Day weekend.  over 4,000 cars exhibit or drive-in for  the day to show off their beauty.  Model A's to 80's Trans Am's can be seen.  A one mile street party is celebrated each year on Friday night and cars are on exhibit in Heritage park all weekend long with compeitions for the best cars of the show!  Food vendors, dancing and fun for all ages.  This is one to bring your camera too!

Oktoberfest - September - Yes, believe it or not Frankenmuth celebrates Oktoberfest in alighment with the Munich Oktoberfest in Germany.  They open the event in September.  this is an ongoing celebration of the marriage of King Ludwig of Bavaria.  Frankenmuth celebrates for one long weekend as opposed to a month in Munich!  Feel like your in the old country at this one!  Bring your dancing shoes again!  Your lederhosend or dirndl too!

Wine and Stein - October - sorta a german style pub crawl, experience food and drink samples from about 15 restaurants all in one night.  Shuttles are provided so you don't have to walk or especially drive under these circumstances.  Great way to experience a lot of restuarnats in one night!

Crabby Clam and Lobster  Fest - October - NO, you don't need to be crabby to come to this event, but loving seafood is a good idea!  This fundraiser for children touts a huge food tent on River Place Shops lawn and serves literally thousands of pounds of seafood and chicken to benefit the Johnny Burke Chilren's Foundation.  Great entertainers and even better food can be had at this event!

 Holiday Celebration and Candlewalk - November.  This event is the Friday after Thanksgiving every year.  This is the official night Frankenmuth turns on the City Christmas lights.  Enjoy special treats from so many shops and singing of carols and libations at the program just before the candlewalk.  Entertainers and even Santa are here to engage with your family.  Frankenmuth was voted the 4th most Christmassy town in America in 2011 by TIME magazine!
