Louisville is generally an extremely safe place to travel.  Violent crime, outside of certain neighborhoods, is largely non-existent.  Property crime, if you use common sense (lock your doors, don't leave valuables in plain sight in your car), is also rare.  People are very friendly, and it is not unsafe to ask for directions, help, and other advice.  Louisville is a safe place to walk, drive, and be out after dark.  The city's west end is known as the rough end of town.  However, even at its worst, Louisville is still not that unsafe.

Emergency calls can be made to 911.  Non-emergency police matters can be handles by calling 502-574-7111.
