Lexington is a great place for al fresco dining when the weather cooperates.  The best time for outdoor dining here is generally May through September.  You may get lucky and have great weather in April as well. 

There are plenty of restaurants with patio dining to choose from.  Here are some of the most popular:

Regatta seafood grille, 161 Lexington Green Circle, Lexington KY 40503:  Regatta has a wide assortment of fresh fish flown in daily.  The patio and bar "Captain Jack's" is open spring through fall and has live music daily.

Merrick Inn, 3380 Tates Creek Road, Lexington KY 40502:  Merrick has been a Lexington favorite for years.  Patio entertainment, weather permitting.

Murray's Restaurant, 3955 Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington KY 40513: Murray's Restaurant, formally a southern home,  is under the same ownership as Merrick Inn (above), and is convenient to Keeneland and the airport.  The Artichoke and Rock Shrimp Dip is a favorite.

Atomic Cafe, 265 North Limestone, Lexington KY 40502: This Caribbean-inspired restaurant is famous for its conch fritters and sweet potato chips, as well as its lively patio with live music, Tuesday through Saturday.

Cheapside Bar and Grill, 131 Cheapside, Lexington KY 40507: This longtime Lexington favorite, with its downtown location attracts college students and corporate executives.  Live music plays Tuesday through Sunday.

Dudley's Restaurant, 380 South Mill Street, Lexington KY 40508:This one-time schoolhouse is close to UK and downtown.  "Pasta Dudley's Style" is always a favorite.

Oscars Oyster and Piano Bar and Malones Restaurant, 3347 Tates Creek Road, Lexington KY 40502:  Oscars has a very small patio but can't be left out.  It is  under the same ownership as Malones, Aqua Sushi, Sal's, (also with a patio),  and Harry's, all located in Landsdowne Shoppes.  This is a very popular area with outstanding dining choices.  Must try: Filet, Oscar style.
