Picnic Island:Located in South Tampa near McDill Air Force Base. Lots of places to have picnics, playground for kids, swimming, boating and fishing, plus a dog park where you and you're pooch can splash around. During the weekday there's not much of a crowd, but on the weekend it tends to get pretty packed.

Hillsborough County Park:Great if you enjoy going for hikes and fishing. Has a campground with low rates, canoe rental, bike rental, a large swimming pool and gift/sandwich shop. Great place to spend a day or the whole weekend! Make sure you have you're wallet out because it does cost a few dollars to get in.

Apollo Beach Manatee Center:Located in Apollo Beach (about 30-40 minutes away from Tampa) is the Manatee Viewing Center. Best times to visit is November-March when the water is still warm but not too hot. Get to see Manatee's in the wild near the Teco Power Plant (where the Manatee's flock to due to the warm water) walk through the small museum, walk out on the pier and enjoy the fresh air. If you get hungry they have a small outdoor cafe with cheap prices and a gift shop. The best part, it's FREE!

Mosi:The Museum of Science and Industry is located in Tampa near the USF campus. A large museum with many interactive things to do. Explore the Florida wild life and learn about the environment. Or explore the human body, learn about the heart,  become a surgeon in the OR, learn about eating healthy, see where babies come from (Not for those with weak stomachs or young children). See an IMAX movie, spend some time in the library downstairs and more.
