The "Spice Routes Cafe" at the First Unity Church is an interesting alternative for lunch/brunch in the Clearwater/St. Petersburg area.  Run by a caterer who co-founded the Saturday Morning Market in downtown St. Petersburg, the cafe is located on the campus of the First Unity Church at 460  46th Ave N, and is open from 11:30am to 2:00pm, Sunday through Friday (closed Saturday). Consult their listing on for more information: Spice Routes cafe on Yelp.

The food is all made from scratch, and table service is provided.  Prices are very reasonable: most lunches are $7.50, desserts are $2.50.  The 8-10 item  menu changes daily; you can call them to inquire, check online, or just show up. On Sundays, a brunch buffet is available. There are plenty of dining tables inside, and a lovely flower-filled courtyard option outside. The cafe is completely non-sectarian.

Another gem that is just off the beaten path is the Sunshine City Grill on 4th Street.  On the outside, it looks small and somewhat unassuming but inside it seems very spacious and homey.  The food and service are both a treat.  This is an excellent place for a romantic dinner for two. Besides romantics, history buffs will like Sunshine City Grill for the treatments of historic St. Pete buildings hanging on each wall.
