Visitors interested in traveling to St. Augustine can do so via plane, train, bus or car. Travelers coming via plane or train should be aware that the airports and train stations which are nearest to St. Augustine are far enough away that transportation will need to be arranged, usually in the form of a rental car.
The main airport which is used by travelers visiting the area is the Jacksonville International Airport ( http://www.jia.aero/). This airport is located about 15 minutes North of downtown Jacksonville. Travelers who do not wish to rent a car here can opt to take a shuttle or taxi to Saint Augustine but should know that the cost will be high because of the distance between the areas. Normal shuttle charges are $55-65 plus tip and a gas surcharge. There are a few shuttle services which operates between the Jacksonville Airport and St. Augustine. They require advance notice and can be contacted either at (http://www.airportexpresspickup.com or at http://www.airportshuttlestaugustine.com ) Check with your hotel if they offer any kind of airport service. The Pirate Haus Inn offfers airport pickup service to their guests dependent on the schedule of the owner.
Travelers should also know that another airport, the Orlando International Airport ( http://www.orlandoairports.net/), is a viable option for visitors who don’t mind driving a considerable distance to and from the airport. By taxi count on at least $100. However from Orlando the shuttles are usually around $120 and by taxi far more.
Visitors interested in taking the train to St. Augustine generally also travel to Jacksonville (via AMTRAK: www.amtrak.com and then obtain alternative transportation from there, however Palatka is a closer station and there is a shuttle which runs twice a day from Palatka to St. Augustine for the whopping cost of $2 each way. Visitors traveling by bus (Greyhound: www.greyhound.com) are in better luck, as there is a station located in St. Augustine, however it is 2.5 miles outside of the city center on a small industrial estate. There is a payphone there from which to call a cab.
Travelers reaching St. Augustine via car will likely either be traveling on Interstate 4 or 10 (if they are traveling east-west) or Interstate 95 or 75 (of they are traveling north-south). From the South on I-95, take exit 311. Follow Highway 207 until the end and make a left on Highway 1. At the next light (king street) take a right.
From the North on I-95 take exit 318. Turn left after the offramp and this will put you on Highway 16. After approximately 5 miles, turn right on Highway 1 (Ponce de Leon Blvd) and follow the signs to the Central Parking Facility.
