Aside from being a top tourist destination, Orlando is also a major destination for business travelers and convention attendees. Orlando is home to the second largest convention center in America; the Orange County Convention Center located on International Drive.  This massive complex draws in millions in business and convention travelers annually. In addition, Orlando is also home to major companies including SIEMENS, Lockheed Martin, AAA, AirTran, and Darden Restaurants.  It is also home to the new Burnham Institute for Medical Research.

The Orange County Convention Center has also boosted the demand for hotels on International Drive sparking the development of many large hotels and resorts immediatly surrounding the center. Major hotels directly adjacent to the convention center include the Rosen Centre Hotel, the Peabody Orlando Resort, within walking distance.   A large Hilton hotel is directly connected to the center.  Many additional chain hotels surround the convention center property.

South Orange County and Osceola County are also home to many of the nation's largest hotel-based convention centers, the biggest being Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center and Marriott Orlando World Center.   Both have convention space that dwarfs convention centers in smaller cities.  Disney also has modest facilities for the convention and business crowds at four of their on-property resorts.

Downtown Orlando is also booming with commerce and business activity. Orlando has seen a recent arrival of bio-tech industries that could bring a new era to Orlando's business stature. Main hotels in Downtown Orlando include the Grand Bohemian Hotel, the Embassy Suites Downtown Orlando, the Marriott Downtown Orlando, the Sheraton Downtown Orlando, the Crowne Plaza Downtown Orlando, and the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Orlando.
