Key Largo, the northernmost of the Florida Keys and closest to the mainland, has rapidly become host to an electic mix of visitors: Florida residents staying for the weekend, partying college students and jet-set celebs swooping in for a week, and senior citizens hunkering down for a season. Key Largo is perhaps most famous for its incredible diving opportunities and wealth of exotic wildlife and nature, including extensive living coral reefs. Not only is Key Largo considered the "diving capital of the world" to many, it is also popular for sport-fishing, which attracts some of the most experienced boat captains and fishing guides in the U.S. Key Largo has become especially popular during the winter with the Hollywood crowd, and it is not uncommon to spot a celeb or two dancing the night away at the latest "it" club. As can be imagined, Key Largo is somewhat of a study in contrasts, as it is frequented by a glamorous, monied crowd, yet is flanked by the swampy Everglades, the antithesis of modernity. In the middle is an interesting artistic community that thrives off of Key Largo's unsual diversity and wild, natural beauty, which means excellent opportunities for visitors to acquire inspried original art on their trip.
