Salida is a great little town. Commonly referred to as the "Banana Belt" because of its mild weather, it sits on the valley floor next to the Arkansas River. At about 7,000 feet elevation, surrounded by a ring of mountains, some up to 14,000 feet high. Originally the town was founded as a railroad stop, but nowadays it’s a popular tourist destinations.
