Breckenridge has a free public transit system called the "Free Ride". This series of buses takes passengers around Breck, and to and from the ski resort from the parking areas, and also serve in-town hotels and lodging. As of this writing, their routes are named for colors: black route, yellow route, etc. For routes, schedules, and opertating hours information, click here.
For in and around the greater Summit County area, the public transortation is the Summit Stage and is very reliable, providing free transportation between Breck and other Summit County destinations. You can get maps and timetables at Summit Stage
These two systems connect at the Breckenridge Transit Center (at the gondola base)
You may find it helpful to look at the maps - even download a copy - before you go. Find your lodging, planned restaurants, and preferred mountain base area and understand which bus lines connect where. You can get hard copy schedules on the bus (usually) but it helps to know what bus to get on when there's a crowd waiting.
There are a couple of other companies as well that offer paid shuttle service to Breck to and from Denver Int'l Airport, including Fresh Tracks, peak to peak transportation, and Powderhound Transportation, in addition to Colorado Mountain Express, which is the official transportation provider of the Breckenridge Ski Resort.
