A day trip from Boulder to the Rocky Mountain National Park is a hikers dream. We left Boulder at 9am and headed up the Boulder Canyon Blvd towards Netherland 16 miles due west. The drive up the canyon was scenic. Once in Netherland, we headed North along the Peak to Peak Highway (73)  towards Estes Park. Go North on Highway (7) , just past Allenspark, you reach the Wild Basin Entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park. We started from trailhead and hiked 2,8 miles to the Ouzel Falls. The trail changes elevation by 1,000 feet and follows a glacier fed river through mostly forested land. Make sure you bring a camera to capture spectacular photos of rushing water, three sets of falls and great woodlands. The hike took us 3 hours, with a stop for lunch. The Saturday trip included beutiful mountain scenery and bikers headed towards Nederland. After leaving the park, weturned left onto highway (7) and drove 20 to 30 minutes to Estes Park. The drive down the mountain provided fantastic views of the valley. Make sure to eat diner at Smokin Daves BBQ and Tap House for some of the best BBQ ribs and brisket in Colorado. We then backtracked on Highway (7) all the way to the foothills to Lyons. There we took highway (36) south back to Boulder. We were back home in Boulder by 6:30pm. This is a great Day Trip that provide spectacular mountain sights to a couple from Florida.
