Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - Fun in the Sun

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has been a popular destination for more than 100 years.  Boardwalk admission is free, ride tickets may be purchased per ride, per day, or per season. Take a thrilling ride on the Boardwalk's red and white Giant Dipper wooden roller coaster.  Built in 1924, it's a National Historic Landmark and helped make the Boardwalk famous!  There are also a variety of midway games to play along the Boardwalk, and many places to eat Boardwalk favorites like corn dogs and deep-fried artichokes from Surf City Grill, and salt water taffy made right in the window of Marini's Candy Store. Joel Schumaker's vampire classic The Lost Boys movie was filmed here, and the Boardwalk can be seen in many other Hollywood movies including Sudden Impact, Dangerous Minds, Harold & Maude, and The Sting 2.

Take the Sky Glider ride that runs from end to end and take in the beautiful views of Monterey Bay.  The Boardwalk can become crowded during summer weekends, so it’s best to arrive early or avoid weekends in the summer if you want to skip the crowds. The Boardwalk's large video game arcades are open year-round. Rides are also open year-round, but during the winter months you may expect to find only limited rides open and just on weekends.

The Boardwalk presents free Friday Night Bands on the Beach concerts on the Beach Bandstand every Friday night during the summer months with bands such as Eddie Money, The Tubes, Loverboy, The Fixx and many others. Bands perform two 45-minute shows at 6:30 and 8:30pm. You can also watch free acrobatic shows on the Beach Bandstand, Sunday - Thursday throughout the summer.
