Long Beach is an interesting area architecturally.  Long Beach is a place where growth has come and gone and different styles of architecture have thrived.  As a result, there are a number of different architectural styles represented in the buildings of Long Beach.  Additionally, there is a rich architectural history in the area with a number of historic buildings being demolished over the years.

Visitors interested in learning more about the history of the architecture should read “Long Beach Architecture: The Unexpected Metropolis (California Architecture and Architects)” by Cara Mullio and Jennifer M. Volland.  This book describes the best buildings to be seen in the area but also provides extensive information about the buildings which are not standing anymore.  Visitors interested in doing some exploring in to undiscovered areas can use the book as a guide.  The book can be obtained through Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0940... .

One of the things that many people don’t realize about Long Beach is that it is the fifth largest city in California and has over fifty two skyscrapers within city limits.  The tallest Long Beach Building is One World Trade Center which is a thirty story building including two floors of shopping often enjoyed by tourists.  Information about other buildings in the area is online at http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/?i... .
