Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley is a small alpine ski and snowboard hill located in the Santa Catalina Mountains in Northeast Tucson, AZ.  The resort is reached via the Catalina Highway, a short drive from Tucson.  Cyclists use this road constantly, so drivers should be on the alert for bicycles along the road.  During and just after storms, the road is often restricted above a certain point to those with chains or four wheel drive vehicles.  The slopes are served by two chair lifts and a single rope tow.  There is a bit of beginner terrain, but most is intermediate to expert.  The runs are relatively short but some steep drops are accessible.  The snow is excellent considering the latitude.  A small snack bar serves hot dogs, chips, coffee and cold drinks.  Equipment rental and instruction is available on the hill.  An all inclusive beginner's package is a bargain.  These are not high speed quad lifts, but for a very reasonable price, a lift ticket and these lifts will serve up as much of a day's skiing as one could want.  Those who entertain the idea of skiing and golfing on the same day may want to ski the morning, then drive into town for an afternoon round of golf.  The Iron Door Restaurant across the road from the parking lot serves excellent chili and the best cornbread in the world.  The lift tickets are as reasonable as any you'll find anywhere!
