Montgomery has its share of crime issues, just the same as many other urban areas. By using some common sense, you should not have any problems while visiting the city. Always be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings. Try not to stick out as a tourist by keeping cameras and maps under cover. Rather than stand on a corner trying to figure out a map, instead duck inside a storefront, where you can stare at your map relatively undisturbed, while also having the bonus of having a store employee nearby who can answer any questions you might have and direct you on your way. When walking through the city at night, it is always safer to travel in groups. When parking, choose a spot underneath or close to a light source. If you have a bad vibe about a certain area, trust your intuition and head the other way.
Remember, if you get into an emergency situation, call 911. If you need to contact the police regarding a non-emergency situation, call (334) 241-2651. To contact a state trooper, call (334) 270-1122.
